Default I know everyone hates when these are posted...

but which would YOU get?

50" Panasonic G 10 (around $1650)

58" Panasonic 800U (around $2400)

To be honest I'm leaning toward the G10. I sit about 8 feet away from my television, and my current 32" seems fine, so I don't think I necessarily NEED the extra 8". Also, the 800U is just so gosh-darned expensive! BUT, it doesn't mean I don't WANT the extra 8".

Just wondering what you all thought.

Also, isn't the picture for the G10 supposed to be astronomically better than the 800U?

I would love to have either of them! $750 for 8" seems like a lot.... heck, you could buy a pretty nice 50" 720p plasma with the leftover $750 to put in another room

With your viewing distance, 50" would definitely be plenty. In this case, I would go with what you think is the better looking picture.

After a few months you will regret not getting the 58" display. It might depend on the size of the room it will be placed in. But it is a big price difference...

I'd go with the G10 (actually I did, ordered mine). I have a 50" DLP and I really don't think I could fit a bigger tv without it looking odd.

If it were a living room being father away bigger is better. But when you're that close the 8" is negligible.

I'll go with the 58 . I guarantee U that U will not regret. Go in a store and look at a 50 and 58 side by side if possible. It will not be a overkill as mentioned above.

i sit 8' away from my 50" and if i had a 58", it would be waaaayy to big. You will also lose clarity when sitting that close to that big of a tv.

I am currently between 7.5 and 8 feet viewing distance with a 50". Within the next year, I will be wall mounting my TV in order to fit a new center speaker. This will push the distance to around 9ish feet. I wish I would have waited or just pulled the plug on the 58". Don't always think of the now. Look into the future, too.

I agree if you are just 8 feet away or so a 58" might be overkill. Your eyes will be darted back and forth across the screen because it's so big. As where a 50' should be about right for the distance you sit. Less strain on your eyes.

Just a thought, if you are willing to pay $2,400 for a Panny 800U but would rather have a smaller screen size because of viewing distance, why not go with the Pioneer Kuro 5020?

It's 50" and Best Buy has it on sale now for $2,300.

As far as size goes, if your not planning any expasion of your living area 50" is more than enough. Now as far as the set's go the g10 scored better on black level performance than the 800u did acording to cnet. they just posted a review of the TC-PG10 series plasma check it out for yourself. I recently purchased a 50G10 and i realy love it, it's an amazing set with incredible blacks and stunning color. hope this could be of some help.

I sit about 9-10ft. away from my 50" and its great....BUT 58" would be even better! Still, I'm happy with my 50" so depending on your budget and whether or not you want the best deal you can get the G10 and the Kuro 5020 are both good choices. Another option is the Kuro 5010 which falls in between those two in price. Its just over $1800 shipped on Amazon right now.

I find it funny that the newer members are saying that a 58" is over killl at that distance. I would trade my 50 for a 58" any day. Maybe you should wait for the 54" that is being released later this year.

So because I'm a newer member I don't have the common sense to realize that a 58" tv from 8 ft away might be a bit too much.

Now I understand that 58" tv would be better if you have the $$ but not if you are in a limited space. But it would be different if he thought he would be moving into a bigger space soon.
