I don't mind my two jobs, it's just difficult to juggle them both at the same time. I also like going out and earning money, I find it rewarding and I'd rather spend other peoples money and not the money I have invested.

I have it good with my two jobs. One is outside sales, so I work my own hours and it's full time. I get a salary with commission sales, as long as I sell and make them money, they don't bother me. I have been with this company for 6 years and they have only gotten mad at me one time. The other job is part time and is split shift, so it works out great with my other gig. For a part time job it pays very well and it has a very nice retirement deal. The two jobs together, I have been doing them both for 3 1/2 years.

Amen to that! If I ever win the lottery or inherit a lot of money, I'm retiring ASAP!

The funny thing is that I don't hate my job. In fact, it helps me grow as a person. But oh man, I have little to no social life because of it. I can't do anything on the weekdays because I'm working from 9am until 7pm at night. And at that time, I have to make dinner and it's already night time when I'm done. And on weekends, I'm so damn tired from the week. Yesterday, I woke up at 11am and had to take another long nap at 3pm. Couldn't really go out and enjoy the weather. Work just takes up so much of my time and energy!

At work last week I was chatting with some co-workers. We were talking about retirement and one of them said that he could retire, but he goes "I'm single, I live alone, what would I do all day long. I'd go stir crazy."

Uhhhh, watch movies, listen to music, read, learn to cook, take up a random hobby...? There are HUNDREDS of ways to pass the time if you put even a modicum of effort into it. Not having to work only means you have MUCH MORE time to devote to these things.

I actually work less hours than I did at my previous job, combine that with the fact that I work from home now and don’t commute.

The problem is, my job requires too much brain power. And that causes a lot of fatigue. Once I’m done work for the day, I just want to flop in bed and sleep!

Exactly. And living alone, you have to do everything yourself. Shopping, cleaning the house, doing dishes and cooking… everything I have to do myself with no one to chip in and help. Too much to do with very little time to do it.

Heck, even working two jobs six days out of the week and living alone I still make time for my hobbies and my chores. Fridays usually are for my errands and on Saturdays I usually go fishing when I'm done at my main job. I've also been rereading the Dragonlance novels (thanks to a recent discussion here on the boards) as well as a recounting of William Tecumseh Sherman's Civil War campaign from Shiloh to Bull Run to Kentucky and now I'm at the Vicksburg chapter when he is collaborating with General Grant. (Although I am willing to admit my ignorance simply to being beleaguered by my age/lack of insight, I guess.)

Passion and love is definitely central to your wanting to work or as Monterey Jack said about hobbies being cultivated.

What helps is that you can devote one evening of running errands! Not the case with me. First off, I don't have a car. I have to walk to the store and I can only buy what I can carry. So I have to take multiple trips. Secondly, many stores vary in prices. What would cost $5 at one store would cost $3 at another store! So it's all about knowing what store has the best deals at the right time. It helps save A LOT of money. So I have to walk to different stores to buy different things. Not to mention one store may not have an item in stock while another stores does! And this explains why B&M stores are going downhill and closing one by one. Many stores today are just poorly stocked!

This is why running errands takes up the bulk of my time. I'm literally spending both Saturday and Sunday just trying to buy groceries because I'm going on wild goose chases finding the items I want and finding the best deals for those items!

I'd walk to the biggest store, buy everything, take a cab home and be done in a few hours.

BJ's offers flat rate $8.99 shipping on 3 or more items. If I'm going to spend $10 to take a cab home, I might as well just order from BJ's website and get most of my stuff delivered. But I'm trying to save the most money as possible, so if I can avoid any shipping or cab charges, then that would be better.

I'd stick to what you're doing. You're getting plenty of exercise just walking around, that's an added health benefit.

I guess I should answer the thread topic as I don't think I've ever visited this thread.

Do I like working? No.
Do I love my job? ABSOLUTELY

I've been blessed to have been telecommuting for 16 years now, the last 12 or so years being full time. I've converted my home office to what I like to call an "Office HT". It's essentially a mancave with a 5.2.4 Atmos setup built around a desk. My wife calls it a command center. Whatever. I have a 30 foot commute. I can't complain. But the kid in me would rather play than work. I definitely fall into the work to live/weekend warrior category.

I guess this is why I actually have less free time now that I work from home. Because when I used to commute to the office, I would do my grocery shopping on the way home. But now that I'm always home, I would literally have to make a special trip there in the evening. I think I just need to discipline myself to get up just a little bit earlier to take a quick 5 minute walk to the store on weekday mornings and buy what I need. Supermarkets open at 7am and I don't start logging on to work until 9am, so I can find time to shop quickly before work. I'm just not an early bird, so training myself to get up an hour earlier can be a challenge!
