I know this is a quip about the wired battery, but unfortunately it is EXCLUSIVELY wireless. That means you won't be able to display anything on it that isn't rendered directly by the headset. This is extremely limiting in terms of performance and functionality of the display. Yes I know that you can have your mac virtual display show up "magically" but it will be through wireless airplay! Has anyone tried to airplay a mac or iphone to an apple tv before? It's a sick joke. This could have been a 4k 120hz 100 inch thunderbolt display for your macbook. Now it's a disney+ simulator lol.

The great thing about the future is the wealth of opportunities to experience something new and create lasting memories with those you love.
Who will care? Those that love immersive entertainment are the same folk that love high quality media such as Blu-Ray and UHD. We are the minority. You keep wanting to inform us every few months that Disc sales are dropping and dropping, so I put it to you, who will be investing in this immersive, high quality future? Will it be the gen Z lot? Nope, they are too busy on social media and watching low bit rate streams on Netflix and YouTube (usually on their phone or laptop)

Is it for families? Nope, the entire family aren’t going to wear ski goggles of an evening. It’s for tech enthusiasts like many on here (me included) , it’s additive, it’s not going to replace tv and projectors because it’s not practical unless you are single.

Could it eventually replace screens? Very slim chance IF they get most of this tech to fit in a pair of relatively normal looking glasses that can be worn comfortably and safely all day long. Inside and outside, in bright conditions, in damp conditions (glasses always steam up at some point in the year).

Personally, I don’t see it. I do think AR and VR will be part of the future, but it won’t be THE future. Devices that are that close to the eye cause issues for tens of millions of people in the U.S and U.K. smartphone replacements need to be for everyone.

We have invested quite a bit into Apple stock and always hope them well. But look how long it took Apple to add integer frame rate to the Apple TV. HUD on the Apple TV - still have to have a Mac with Xcode installed in order to install Developer HUD on the Apple TV. Plan to ask them why they can not make HUD part of tvOS. To date, keeping HUD on my ATV4K has been a royal PITA.

Not a biggie, all my life have been using SMPTE timecode. I just find the frame difference, / by the frame rate for the time. Example: 7 frames / 23.976 = .292 sec or 292 ms.

It's the price point that sucks. Gen Z, nor their parents have $4,000 (including sales tax) to drop on an item like this. I'm all for the technology, but not at this impenetrable price.

I mean, most people don't even invest $4,000 into their retirement accounts in a year, but will be first in line to splurge on something like this? Priorities.

Agreed. It’s going to be a cool thing, but I don’t see how it replaces anything for at least 12-14 years, let alone everything.

The thing is a full Apple computer system with everything ... input devices, speakers, monitor ... everything.... For me this makes the price some what ok plus it's going to be a very prestigious type of thing at first.

I don't really think the price is too crazy. I do think most people who have tried it say it's too heavy even though the battery is external. I could see cutting the eyes out of a picture of me and pasting that on another VR device and having pretty much the same thing as what they are working really hard to do with the outer screen.

I'm actually pretty much an Apple fanboy ish type of guy. If gqpublic wasn't so high on it I wouldn't have reacted to the news so harshly.

Yeah, I am a bit sceptical of the ‘heavy’ complaints. It certainly doesn’t look it. Having worn the PSVR headset for 6 years, I haven't once suffered any ill effects. I would be surprised if Apple slipped up on such a basic design flaw.

One other thing we wanted to cover today: It’s been reported by fans of the film that the version of William Friedkin’s The French Connection (1971) that now appears for streaming on The Criterion Channel (and elsewhere) and also for Digital download has been censored by Disney (which now owns 20th Century Studios) to remove some offensive language. You can find the details here on Hollywood Elsewhere.

Ended up buying Conan the Barbarian/Destroyer twin-pack on BD from Amazon. $11.99 for the set.

A friend also sold me his 4K disc copy of "65" and BD of Apalloosa, which I used to have but it got damaged not too long ago. He sold the, both to me for $10, so that was a deal.

Isn’t it just. My discs feel more important by the year.

It won’t be long before Peppa Pig comes with a trigger warning and/or edited scenes. Maybe for folk who identify as a talking cow and find the content exclusive.

What a world we live in.

The era of physical media formats, such as CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays, will likely come to an end as the baby boomer generation passes.

Maybe physical media will be all MOD discs before it fades away.

So, around 20-30 years? Sounds like plenty of time to me.

I suppose it must be true if MSN says so.

That particular tech is already being replaced by FAST and internet only streaming. I have satellite tv and they are pushing customers to buy their new streaming box. The new streaming device charges you £5 extra if you want to skip ads and of course, you can’t record stuff to your planner, everything is just added to playlists in the cloud instead.

Hey All. Vilya made it over to my house this past Sunday for dinner and a movie, as he had a couple of tough days of testing Monday and Tuesday lined up here in St Louis. He had me pick something to show off my room, which was a pretty tough decision as I wanted to grab something he nor his chauffeur Warren had not yet seen. I decided on technical merits more so than actual cinematic credibility, and popped in Monster Hunter. Unbelievable 4K disc and an Atmos tour de force. Vilya was in the sweet spot on the couch and was all smiles, but my wife wasn’t too happy upstairs though.
