Too late.

Was at a Toys R Us & they had some for the price of a PS4 controller. Which here is $79.99

Also bought New Super Mario Wii. Need to go back & get Mario Kart.

I'm not to bummed about the GameCube support. I've been using the one I recently got & it's running great. Just received F-Zero & was sure that disc would fail. I've never seen a disc that has as many scratches as the one I got. Plus I could see a brownish ring near the plastic hole. Means whoever used a pencil to smooth the edges around the centre of the disc. Gave it a spin & played the game for nearly an hour with no problems. I plan on actually playing all the GameCube games I get.. cuz well.. They are all used.

The storage is internal on the Wii Mini. 512MB, 4000 blocks for saves. The only thing that I don't like about the system is it outputs 480i only. (Without a scaler) I'll likely store the system & play the Wii games on Wii U.

I picked up one of those cheap wireless sensor bars. Downloaded the only Wii game I had purchased On Wii U *Super Mario Galaxy 2* & am happy to say the sensor bar works. (With 4 AAA batteries! ) Also, that game is awesome.

So you bought a Mini Wii?
The problem is that you won't be able to transfer your saved games because the SD card slot is missing. So they will be stuck on it until it dies.

btw. every Wii including the Wii inside Wii U has 512MB storage.

Hell yeah it is.

There should be data management on the Mini like the regular Wii for deleting game files.

The problem ain't gonna be mine. It will be some one else's when they buy it years & years from now. Although I hear 512MB is plenty for Wii Game saves, I'm not sure what MB's/KB's they average.

Just recently lost 13GB of Game saved data on PS4. I had 3 games backed up on USB so I understand the no "SD Card" slot on Mini to be inconvenient.

The 512MB storage is not a problem. I own around 120 or even more Wii games and still got storage left. Mini Wiis don't offer internet connectivity, so you can't purchase digital download games. Even those digital downloads are tiny in size.

The problem is that your saved games are stuck on it, that's why it should be avoided at all costs.

Well it may be inferior but for the price I got it, I'll keep as a Collector.

I have not returned the Black Wii yet & now am confused. Reason I was gonna return it was because after looking through the instruction manuals, I saw a picture of the power cable for the system. Today I actually checked to see what was in there. It's a North American Official Nintendo power cable for the Wii. I hadn't touched anything else.

So the manual was wrong/misleading.

Now I'm wondering if something else in the manual was wrong/misleading? First page states the Console will only read discs made from USA, Mexico & Canada. Also a few other Countries.

It does not list Japan as one of the Countries in the manual.

I looked & of the Wii games I've gathered in NA, 4-5 titles are made in Japan. Today I bought Mario Kart new & saw one Made in Japan & one Made in USA. I picked the U.S. Copy.

Is it possible I received a NA console? Wouldn't Nintendo have provided the proper power AC for UAE & Middle Eastern Countries if it is a Middle Eastern Wii Console?

Maybe the seller put that one in?

It seems Middle Eastern Wiis are normally PAL, but some may also be NTSC.

Well, Japan is another region. It's US, Europe/Australia and Japan. There is no way that you can play games from more than 1 of those, unless it was modified in some way.

But you could always just install the Homebrew Channel and that way you would be able to play games from outside of your region.

Having "Made in Japan" on it doesn't mean that it's a Japanese version of the game. If it was, the game would probably be Japanese only.

Seller may have replaced it.
Or maybe seller just used a Middle Eastern box, idk. Why do you think that it's a Middle Eastern Wii? Because the box says so?

The seller is Amazon.ca

Could be. Some sites I read go into detail & claim no, they are NTSC. I think the only way to know at this point is to bust open the system. lol

Thanks!

I found it odd 2 copies of the same game were not made in the same country. Nintendo Region explains that games are made in Japan & sold to US for sale first, then USA discs get made after & so on. Would explain why some games are missing bilingual packaging.

The Console, Box & everything in it is New. There is markings on the box like a sticker, except it's part of the real cardboard art, that has Middle Eastern Counties listed. (I'll take a pic cuz I have not found one on the Internet)
Inside there are Nintendo manual instructions in English & Saudi.

NTSC-U

The U region works as the Americas/Asia region, specifically in these countries:

Saudi Arabia

Now that's really strange that amazon itself would sell Wiis, that are not meant to be sold in that region.

Would be a typical case of fishy third party sellers.

If amazon itself sold it, then it would make no sense to send you a PAL Wii. So maybe it will actually work out. Well, it is NTSC-U, so it will work. I would just try it out.
If it doesn't, just send it back and be done with it.

Really really weird.

To be fair there are some online shops in Europe, that ship UAE versions as well. They do this for PS3+PS4 most of the time. Which is quite annoying, when you want an actual European version and not an import.

The latest model Wii (Not Wii U) Amazon.ca lists is the Japanese Import Console.

Anyways, thanks for your help & game recommendations. Dem GameCube games have been slowly coming in by our slow @ss mail service here. After playing only 4 games I can't believe I skipped that console when released. The Wii games I still see for sale at some places & am gonna look around some more tomorrow in stores.

Today decided to carefully plug & play the black Wii & then re-package it. I only needed the system & AC. Had other used gear to get it going.

Good news is,

- It works with NTSC-U
- It plays Wii Games including "Made in Japan" copies.
- It accepts Component output at 480p

Bad news is,

- It does not have GameCube controller ports.
- It does not read GameCube games. (The disc menu shows Wii or GameCube discs for playback when no disc is inserted)

Picked up Metroid: Other M & Dead Space: Extraction new for cheap at Walmart.

So it's the 2nd Wii model, which lost gamecube compatibility.
The 3rd Wii model is the Mini Wii.

If you are a Metroid fan, then better don't play Other M. I really hated it, but that's because I played all the games before it.

Dead Space Extraction is awesome. I didn't like Dead Space on PS3, but loved Extraction.

I've heard mixed views on both games. I want to start & finish the trilogy before trying Other M.
Dead Space looks like it be a fun on-rails.

Almost picked up RE Chronicles (both) @ GameStop. Couldn't do it. They have a not so bad selection there but all games are used & they have stickers that would be a nightmare to peel off. Yep I'm OCD like that. I'd rather pay quadruple the price for a new copy.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is simply perfect. Back then on Gamecube I thought "what the hell are they doing, Metroid in First Person - that can't work". And I was so wrong.

Hmm, better play trilogy first (or better: only play that one). Trilogy with Wiimote controls is simply the best thing ever.

Other M is not even an actual Metroid game. It's linear most of the time. So many things wrong with it. Back then when I heard what they were trying to do, I was interested. I'm so glad that I bought it some weeks after release, when they already dropped it to 10pounds or something. If I would have bought it for full price, I would have been even more upset. The best thing that I can say about Other M is basically: "the graphics are nice".

Yeah, I hate that. I buy almost all of my games new.
