Default DELL COMPUTERS bluray drives

What is the exact part number, model number, or service tag number for a Dell with a bluray drive. I want to order one from Dell. Pictures would help greatly.

This might be of some use to you. Dell CSR's were not well prepared to answer my questions regarding BDD's and the on line configuration tools don't really specify which drives are available by manufacturer/model, etc. They do include some information about write speed/features so, one must work backwords using the link I provided.

My Inspiron 1720 came with the UJ-220. Apparently the UJ-225 was not an option on my machine.

EDIT: I just realized that the link I provided is for the UK, however the USA verisons appear to be the same, found here.

I have a Dell XPS m1710 with a UJ-220 BD Drive. I spent a pretty penny on it, but hey, what're you gonna do. I believe the new m1730 also has the option for a Blu-Ray drive. Again, it's going to cost you a pretty penny.

I have a Dell 1720 as well and I want to upgrade it to Blu-Ray. I was pretty upset when I got it and it appeared to be non-upgradable, but I took my laptop apart the other day and I found out just how easy it is to remove the optical drive and replace it.

I had also been looking at the Dell web site to see if I could ever purchase a Blu-Ray drive as an upgrade (it is an option offered when building the laptop online). Of course, Dell doesn't list it.

Thanks for posting the part numbers. Quick question though:

Do those drives come with any Blu-Ray playback software? If so, which one?

It's Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra, than you just update it to the current version. From what I hear, they are supposed to update it to be Profile 1.1.

I have an Inspiron 530 - Desktop - with a BD reader/writer. Made by Phillips.

My 1720 came installed with a "Cyberlink supported" version of Media Direct 3.3 for BD playback, no PowerDVD. While others may have had success with Media Direct, this was not my experience at all, and tech support was, well... I'll be nice.

I purchased PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 (3516) separately. It has a few quirks but, overall it has played everything I've thrown at it (including that other format ). The nice thing about the latest build is, it appears that I'll be able to use my Harmony 676 remote with it. Cyberlink now has an IR remote that can supposedly support BD/HD DVD interactive features so, I can train the Harmony from that. More here.

That's good news about Profile 1.1. I hope it comes to pass. If so, it would be a good indication that support for Profile 2.0, will be there also.

How would you use an IR controller though? Does your laptop have a IR sensor? If so, I'm extremely jealous. Before I got my BD player and HDTV in my bedroom, I'd hook my laptop to my 20 inch LCD monitor and watch movies on there. Hated getting up to go back to a scene

The Cyberlink remote comes with a PnP USB remote sensor. I would use that with my Harmony, after training it the various commands I want to use, with the Cyberlink remote.

Right now, I'm using a BT mouse and keyboard. This is OK but, I'd rather use the remote, and for $20, it's money well spent, in my book.
