As expected. But will the show be interesting without it's main star? She was the biggest drawn for the viewers ...

I like how Sara Gilbert thinks she has what it takes to carry a show when the only person in the cast that has major star power is John Goodman. If the others besides Goodman was any good they wouldn’t have disappeared out of Hollywood when Roseanne first ended.

Funny cause the only person I’ve seen on a regular basis since Roseanne first ended is John Goodman. If the others 2 or 3 are so popular why haven’t I heard anything about them since?

The funny thing about this is not the way you simply dismiss facts that are inconvenient to your theory, it's the way that your description of Sara Gilbert would better apply to Roseanne herself.

Not to mention she guests all the time on the #1 show on TV, The Big Bang Theory. She also just won another Tony for her Broadway work. I don't think 'DJ' or 'Becky' are even actors anymore, they just came back to do the show again. |

I've never been a big fan of the show now or then, but I have seen enough of it in order to know that the show being about Darlene now does make the most sense with her character being the way that she has always been written. Her attitude is what made her stand out compared to the other two kids of the family and with her staring at divorce now, that only means more to write about where she is concerned.
God bless you always!!! Holly P.S. But because Roseanne will no longer be a part of the show, I wouldn't be surprised if Dan becomes the front and center feature now that he has her disappearance to deal with however her disappearance is written. |

The press release doesn't say anything about it being centred on Darlene, it's clearly now an ensemble even more than before, and if anyone is to be the "star", I would imagine it would be Goodman. Some people are clearly conflating unsubstantiated and silly gossip with reality.

Shouldn't they just recast the Roseanne part? I know the role is so iconically linked to Barr but if the audience feel she wasn't doing any of the heavy lifting anyway and want the sitcom to place the focus elsewhere now then just keeping the character with a new performer will be far less destructive to the basic essence of the show. Perhaps they just wanna write her out for now while they think about it?

Hmmm, they're screwed there then, unless Barr eventually sells off the rights as a good will gesture I guess!

They should have just done a Becky and recast Roseanne with esteemed character actress Margo Martindale

I really enjoyed the last season of Roseanne, especially the last episode and the emotional impact of John Goodman's phenomenal acting as he has to deal with the possibility of losing everything (i.e. money and home) and his conflict with his oldest and closest friend about who to hire for the next job, union workers or illegals. It felt real, well as real as it seems to be. I give the credit to Goodman. Even Roseanne was subdued during these scenes allowing the story to playout for real, rather than for laughs or some sort of bit.
This is why I will definitely be checking out The Conners if it ever truly comes to fruition. There was a lot to this show that dealt with modern issues that most other shows (to my knowledge) have yet to touch. And just for kicks: maybe Louis Anderson could play Roseanne. I could easily see a more riled up Christine Baskets type in the maternal role. Haha. |
