Exclamation Which RPTV to buy for games (lag?) and Movies JVC 1080p, Sony 1080p, Samsung 1080p

I'm fortunate to have access to my friends employee discount at Best Buy.

I'm thinking 50" to 61" in size. Very concerned about lag, even so with older systems at 480i/p.

Also, which inputs can do 1080p inputs for my 360 (VGA or component) and future PS3 (HDMI or Component).

I will also be watching DirectTV with HD.

So for example I can get the 61" Samsung HLS 87 series for just under 2k with discount (not including taxes, EW).. JVC and Samsung are about the same price where as the Sony is a bit more (55" Sony is the same price as 61" Samung). To me the Picture Quality on all three look great.

Samsung 61" Model: HL-S6187W

JVC 61" Model: HD61FN97

Sony 60" Model: KDS-60A2000

Thanks for the links..

I'm confused, it says the Samungs did better than the Sony's on that chart?

No mention of the JVC's..

Thumbs up I own this set . . .

I just bought the KDS-60A2000 60" SXRD and I am constantly amazed at it. I haven't even calibrated it or ISF'd it yet but it is the best display I've ever had (and I've had some nice ones). My previous set was a Pioneer Elite HD CRT rear projection.

To avoid posting the same info twice, read this reply on the set:

I'd have to agree with that. I have the Sony SXRD XBR2 (same family as the A2000) and it's the best display I've ever had as well. It's perfect for gaming. I currently have my 360 hooked up to it along with the Samsung Blu-Ray player. Similar to Jim, my previous display was a HD CRT rear projection, but it was a Mitsubishi (65"). I usually prefer CRT image quality to DLP, Plasma, etc., but the LCOS technology provides stunning image quality. It looks so good, even my girlfriend was stunned.

Good to hear.. I sold my beautiful 65" Hitachi Ultravision HD CRT right before I sold my condo.. Huge box but amazing PQ.. I honsetly don't expect any PLasma or microdisplay to match up, so your comments in that regard are very comforting

Have you tried the 360 with the new 1080p update? What's the info on VGA also accepting 1080p or component dong 1080p? Should I even care since the games aren't rendered at that resolution anyways?

Funny you should ask. I just started a new thread on this, because I downloaded the patch today and as of right now, it doesn't work with all 1080p TV models (including mine), so beware! I'm very disappointed, but it's not a problem with the TV. Here's the thread...

PS3 has HDMI outputs, so that won't be an issue.

Yeah, that is what I was wondering about.. Where is the HDMI MS.. If you can't do it with current 360's just say and stop misleading people, otherwise make it an option and get with the current gen of displays already..

Hard to believe MS was so short-sited on the connection issue. Considering with the steps forward they made with the original xbox.

I doubt MS is reading this threaad, but have you tried using the 1080p display setting lately? My co-worker has an SXRD set that wasn't displaying his x360 in 1080p, but since yesterdays update, he said it's been working fine. WHo needs HDMI?

Archaic, you're entitled to your opinion but don't dismiss what others "need".

I'm glad you find component satisfactory. Those of us who want the ultimate nth degree of preventing analog losses and preserving the pure digital signal in today's digital fixed pixel displays, like and need HDMI (or DVI).

I recommend the Sony LCOS SXRD sets all the way as far as RPTVs go, if your budget permits.

Sony has hits and misses, but they deserve all the praise in the world for these things.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better value for your dollar in RPTV world than these IMO.

Avoid DLP for the meantime or until they fix the "rainbow effect" problems on that thing.

As for RPTV, it's best that you get LCOS sets such as Sony SXRD and/or JVC HD-ILA.

But I recommend that you wait till Sony and/or JVC release sets that have HDMI VERSION 1.3 in it.

In regards to component via 1080p, take note that only a FEW sets support it atm and in majority of TVs, you can only get 1080p via VGA and/or HDMI.

Component is NOT an option for more than 75% of TV sets sold in the market today.

When those come out and are actually affordable? That's a pretty long time from now.

HDMI 1.3 is overrated and overhyped. It will be YEARS before we even see displays come out that begin take advantage of its supposed video functions.
