Found this in the Comments section of Amazon for your player:

"ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS THIS: MAKE SURE THE PLAYER IS CONNECTED TO POWER. OPEN THE DISC TRAY ("OPEN/CLOSE" BUTTON) AND INSERT YOUR BR DISC. TURN OFF THE POWER (TOP RED BUTTON ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE REMOTE). ON THE REMOTE CONTROL, PRESS (1) FOR REGION A. PRESS (2) FOR REGION B. PRESS (3) FOR REGION C. KEEP THE BUTTON PRESSED UNTIL THE PLAYER TURNS ON! THAT'S ALL YOU NEED TO DO. I noted that the player is preset for Region A. I inserted a Region B disc and pressed the button on the remote numbered "2" until the player powered up by itself and recognized my Region B disc. When i removed the Region B disc and inserted a Region A disc, the player automatically recognized the proper zone and played it. I did not have to repeat the numeric button process. I then reinserted the B disc to see if the player would automatically recognize its zone, and it did so."

Sorry to hear that but don't give up yet. Have you contacted the vendor you purchased the player from? They might be able to help.

Also, take a look at this product page from the place I bought mine. They claim that you switch regions with the press of a button, just like the Sony I bought. I would recommend that you call them and tell them you're researching and thinking of buying this model and would like to know exactly what to do to play region B discs. They might have the answer.

I contacted them but they didn't give me a proper answer

My first choice was to buy directly from 220 electronics but I thought "Amazon is more reliable" and I chose them instead

Check to see if the item is returnable to Amazon. The Amazon page will tell you this. If 220-e price is within the same range, I would buy from them.

I never posted on this thread before but I was hoping for some advice. I currently have an LG UBK90 4K Blu-ray Player that I'm very happy with. I own a few Region B locked Blu-rays and DVDs and want to purchase a few films that are only available on Blu-ray internationally ("The Fury", "Dawn of the Dead", etc). I want to get a reasonably priced all-region player to use for these exceptions. Does anyone have an opinion on these 2 units: https://www.220-electronics.com/sony...vd-player.html or https://www.220-electronics.com/lg-b...ay-player.html. Thanks in advance.

The 1700 has probably been the basic go-to Region Free player for years. Simple, cheap, reliable

Of course -- the links you provide are pre-mod and you need to add $40 for the mod option

Personally, I'd check 220's Ebay shop for the 1700 "refurb" units which are $100-120 -- region*free*dvd. Since all of these are open box, modded units there's a question whether the refurbs are any different than those labelled "Brand New." Several people who have bought the Ebay refurbs basically say they appear unused.

I have had the Sony 1700 for about 4 years. I use it almost daily, and have had no issues with it. It's a great player.

Generally they do indicate the region on the box and on the back of the player. I could be wrong but I wouldn't expect a place like best buy to stock payers that have been modified.

Thank you. I agree. I thought that I went over the boxes pretty thoroughly, but I'm going to check again the next time I'm at the store.

(I'm not in a super big hurry as the Region A player I currently use plays almost all of the Region B blu-rays I've tried, after going through a certain sequence of remote button pushes ... namely "Stop" followed by "Top Menu" after the disc loads. The player is an old Pioneer Elite BDP-23FD ... very well built. I'd buy another of these in a flash if I could.)

For what it's worth ... I went back to Best Buy to recheck the blu-ray player boxes for region specs. They *are marked as Region A and/or Region 1. My mistake.

also, if I was to buy a region A player from the US, would it work over here? Cheers!

I did the opposite - imported an LG Region B 3D BR player from the UK years ago to the US. Snipped off the UK prong plug, soldered a regular 110V US prong plug on and electrical taped it and it works fine. Check your 3DBR model - could be rated for 120V or 240 and accept either but be 110% certain before applying twice the amount of voltage.

FWIW - I see Samsung and LG Region A 3D blu-ray players at Goodwill all the time for $10. Have 5 of them now after loaning one to a friend.

Just wish someone would still make/sell region unlock chips for some of the Region A players I have but they were all manufactured close to 10 years ago. Until I hook up the splitters I have to unhook HDMI/optical from the region A to the region B any time I want to switch to a diff region 3D BR.

3D_Enthusiast Is some thing wrong with multiregion magic? They sell multi region players, or if you prefer they collect mod and return your player

My LG UBKM9 appears to not like certain encoding or maybe some videos are not correctly encoded to begin with. The videos will work, but it looks like they pause every few seconds as they play (choppy). Not sure if it would even help, but it's unfortunate that the player will not let you change resolution during playback + all except Auto and 2160p are greyed out in Settings.
