I got say it was probably seeing all those awesome Disney steels on zavvi that really got me going with steelbook collecting. Just wish I was aware of zavvi when frozen, aladdin, and such were available. They are costing me tons on ebay.

I feel at this point, this thread, or the concept really is redundant. There is just so many steels coming out from so many different places, it just seems unlikely any one steel will rise above the rest. These days high prices are merely set by scalpers, not any individual steelbook becoming so rare its price elevates. Even low numbered releases like for instance Kimchi Frozen lent, arent fetching very outrageous prices, and there is only 700 of them. Things were different back 6-7 years ago with steelbooks having the occasional "one steelbook" that explodes in price and becomes next to impossible to find. That simply just doesnt seem to happen anymore.

soar means to rise or fly, and is the correct word, but "too" is not right, of course. |

a couple great examples from the past year are: Thor Kimchi Lenticular: exploded right outta the gates and has always commanded $150+ Tangled Kimchi Lenticular: surprisingly very slow to sell out on Kimchi. And was widely available on evilbay for around $80 for the longest time, and then suddenly skyrocketed to well over $100. Frozen Kimchi Lenticular: like Thor, exploded right outta the gates and has always commanded $150+ and even $200+ sometimes. The World's End and Kick Ass 2: Simple and straighforward steels with vibrant excellent artwork and nice gloss. You will have to pay pretty good coin to get either of these now compared to their original retail price. X-Men DOFP Kimchi Lenticular: Sold out in like 3 min and you'd be lucky to snag one sub $100. of course there are more, but these are just some great examples to show that even in this past year, some very limited steels do rise quickly and quite significantly in perceived value. |
