Very nice job. Question though: (just making sure) - the "acoustic board" is the Top tier, where the Subs are resting on, correct? Have you had a chance to run thru some nice Low-End scenes to see if they (subs) seem to be Performing better? Lastly, have you thought about putting some foam Under them, in the Open Space to assist with absorbtion? Though BIG DADDY might have some better thoughts on this idea.

Either way, overall you did a really impressive job.

Everything looks very good. I suggest that you put a large thick area rug on the floor in front of the speakers. That will reduce some of the reflections from the floor and will help the sound, particularly imaging.

The next step of course is bass traps and wall treatment.

The top tier is MDF , were the feet are resting is the acoustic board to absorb any vibration the comes out from the subs . Right now i have better bass it real expands very well in the back of the house in my kid room the Helmet from Masterchief from halo was having a cosmic affair with a mongoose , now i`m looking for a big nice rug to put in place .

I'm new here and this is going to be first post. I was lurking around the boards wondering if I should get a subwoofer riser.

Like most people, I was really skeptical about this and wonder if it would make a difference. I also didn't want to spend 80.00 to get one, especially if I didn't know if it would make a difference.

After going to Home Depot, buying the materials and making one, I will say that this is the best 25.00 that I have ever spent on my home theater. There isn't a reason that anyone should be without one. Before I even added the foam, I immediately notice a huge improvement.

Here are the pics.

You can go up to a couple of feet. The reasons are explained in post #2 of this thread. However, I am not responsible if you develop a headache after you read it.

Will a subwoofer riser help prevent sound transfer through the floor? I discussed the issues we have with our hardwood flooring a bit with Big Daddy, but I am curious if the risers actually limit the "shake" transferred to the house itself. Would be nice to help prevent that in our 2-owner "condo" house.

Thanks!

BTW: I am already thinking about saving up the +$100 for our two subs

I fell less vibration on the floors but more deep bass truth out the house
The first thing that i did was to bring down the volume of each sub .

another awesome sticky big daddy. I am definately going to build some sub risers for all my subs in my 2 HTs. Gotta question, I have nearly 20ft ceilings in my livingroom (see pics in HT). so how high should I make the riser in the livingroom? THe sub is a downfiring JBL Venue 12

You can make the riser as high as possible without making it too ugly. A couple of feet should be ok. When you go that high, you should probably make a cube such as the SubTraps sold by ASC. Make sure you fill the inside with sand and foam so that it is heavy and solid. You do not want it to be hollow.

sounds good, would something a little lighter say jam packed little chambers of spray foam throughout the tower work good enough, sand might warp my laminate floor...

I just ordered 2 SubDude HD's (Black) from Amazon, and can't wait to see the difference. Getting the occasional "rattle" from things in the room now without risers.

Also, I put down a thick blanket on our Hardwood floor last night to simulate what a throw rug might do, and we watched Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest!

Man! I needed to dial down the subs with that "rug" there. Especially during the "Heart-Thumps"! Does that make sense?!?!

Don't use too much sand. Use a liitle sand to make the box more stable and fill the rest with foam, old mattresses or any other junk you can find around the house.

Congratulations. They should make your subwoofers more stable and hopefully they will make them sound better.
