Given how little you’ll get from selling them off, why not just keep them? Half an empty box for the return of maybe $25-$30?

Agreed. If the lowest-cost SKU was $75 to $100 I could see the point in selling off the unwanted Netflix-version discs, but since one could buy those same discs in full retail packaging for less than $40 (which sets a hard limit on what you could get for your loose discs) that means that breaking up the 11-disc set could scarcely be described as "worth" the paltry returns.

I doubt I’ll ever touch the Netflix discs outside a curious glance here and there, but I know it would be pointless to sell them off and break up the collector’s edition. I’m still very angry that I had to shell out $130 extra just to have the original, non-Netflix dub and subtitle translation. I fail to see the point in keeping it in print in only a limited capacity. I guess I should be thankful it’s included at all, but if they truly wanted to bury it, you’d think they would’ve left it off entirely. Since they’re obviously okay with keeping it in circulation, they should’ve allowed it to be included as an additional audio/subtitle track on all releases like they did with FUNi’s original subs for 3.33.

Not to mention this is a limited run edition, once oop and judging by how much the platinum dvds were selling for, this is going to up in value significantly.

You'll probably get at best 25$ for the loose Netflix discs, and you'll also lose all the bonus features. Might as well keep them.

I will never understand the need some people have to be rude to others for asking simple questions in these threads. Not everyone has the time to monitor these threads constantly, and sorting through pages of fluff to find your answer is a huge pain. If you have the time to write a response, why not be kind and helpful rather than nasty and condescending? Or just don't say anything at all and keep scrolling lmao. If it bothers you that much maybe it's time to log off for a bit and talk a walk.

Watching some episodes in full, I understand why some don't like the VSI dub. Some of the pronunciations and such sound a bit off. Hearing someone awkwardly say Fuyutsuki's name in episode 21 would make a great drinking game. The EoE dub was probably better than ADV's, imo. I've watched 1-24 with subs, might as well finish up that way at some point.

As someone who owns the Platinum discs, it still seems like a bad deal to get the Collectors' edition even as I'm still thinking about it. No completely "retro" experience is really possible with this release in any form. Even with the ADV dub, there's still no FMTTM.

Technically, ADV never dubbed EoE; it was Gaijin Productions using ADV’s main cast, which is why it’s not quite as up to snuff as the TV series dub. I might actually watch Netflix’s dub of that to see if it’s improved at all.

ADV also never had the license to End of Evangelion because the license was too expensive, it was Manga Entertainment that dumped a ton of cash for it. It's a bit annoying having people only say simply "ADV dub" when they never licensed EoE nor Death & Rebirth.

No need to be pedantic, D&R and EoE used the ADV cast, saying the ADV dub is just a way to simplify the conversation.

I only brought it up as a possible reason why some (such as the poster above) might find the original EoE dub of lesser quality. There’s no question that ADV would’ve done the film better justice. Gaijin’s dub isn’t bad (particularly the voice acting), but it has questionable adaptation choices and other flaws (such as pronunciation errors and inconsistencies) that the ADV TV series dub lacked.

It's all good, I understand why you were talking about it. I was more so talking about for general conversation.

Yeah, I completely forgot about that! Looking at this high-res stock photo you can just barely read the phrase "+ BONUS CONTENT" at the bottom of the list of contents found on the disc art for Discs #3 - #5, but not on the corresponding Discs #9 - #11 with the original English dub.

That's not what he was asking.
Is it silent? Generic music? Music from the show?

So do the scenes during the show itself have total silence or do they have dialogue but no music? For instance, does the kiss scene between Misato and Kaji in episode 15 have the loud added crickets as heard in background the Netflix dub, is there nothing but vocals, or (heaven forbid) is the whole audio blanked out? Do the credits at least play Rei I?
