It is if they make you send in the disc to replace like Funimation did. I mean it doesn't seem big a deal enough for them to even consider replacing discs and I am fine if they don't.

Its spine looks more or less like any other GKIDS release with the company logo and NGE logotype, except for the lack of an image at the lower half of the spine as typically seen here.
Perhaps there wasn't any key art that was suited for such a narrow aspect ratio, or else it was that an understated look was desired. Either way, I'm not at all surprised with how it turned out. |

You're holding off on a purchase because a bonus feature doesn't have subtitles? Am I reading that right?

If it is not fixed, then too bad, but nothing to lose any sleep about, so I buy without further hestitation. If a disc replacement program happens, then great, but I'll have to wait until new copies start circulating with the fixed disc because I have no capability to request and receive replacement discs, partly because I don't live in the United States (I am currently on visit, but not for much longer). Almost learned that the hard way for nearly preordering Funimation's AKIRA 4K. |

Yeah, I live in Canada. Got their Army of Darkness set when it came out and the replacement disc program just required my to state my address and forward my receipt. Got my replacement disc no problem.

Watched End of Evangelion on the big screen tonight! Pretty good experience, though, strangely, despite being advertised as being the “Classic Dub” (and even a text slate just before the film saying the same), they showed the New/“Official” Dub. This was my first time experiencing this new dub, and it wasn’t bad, though I still would’ve preferred the older one. Some of the performances were better (Shinji, though I still have a soft spot for Spike, and the supporting cast for the most part), others I was indifferent with, and with Misato and Asuka, I prefer the OG Dub performances, though these were still fine in their own right.
I wonder how this dub mix-up happened though, especially considering how it’s stated upfront digitally and physically that it would be the Classic Dub. Did this happen with anyone else that happened to watch the film in cinemas? |

No Cantonese dub included (iirc there are 2 dubs)
EDIT: 2 dubs according to Wikipedia. First dub broadcast and released on VCD in 1997. Second dub broadcast in 1998. Amusingly, the voice actress of Rei in the first dub voices Asuka in second and vice versa. Last edited by NLScavenger; 11-11-2021 at 10:00 PM. |

Got mine today from GKids. Disc 3 was a floater and was severely scratched towards the edge. This has happened to me a couple times now in the past months, it's like I'm cursed with scratched discs. 2 or so minutes into episode 19 when it fades from a red lit scene to a daytime scene my disc glitches so there's obviously some playback issues with it. Anyone else got an issue like that? Anyone know how Gkids is with replacing discs?
Otherwise, the set is great. Video looks perfect. |

Given the HK release's information & stock image, my speculation is that this will be a port of the Japanese "Standard Edition" boxset except for Discs #6 (Death and Rebirth theatrical edition) and #7 (End of Evangelion theatrical edition + "Love & Pop" trailer) being omitted. The six blue discs would be the TV series + Revival of Evangelion (i.e. Death[True]² + EoE), the two black discs would be the bonus features, and the booklet looks to be the same 32-page one whose only point of interest is the 8 pages' of Sadamoto artwork that we've already seen from the US Platinum DVDs.
Of course for a selling price of ~$200 shipped I would recommend passing on it, unless if by some miracle "Fly Me to the Moon" was included. If not, you'd be just as well-served with the $40 GKIDS standard edition. Last edited by svenge; 11-12-2021 at 02:15 AM. |
