PLIIx is Dolby Pro Logic x which I believe is the most current sound field for pro logic. it can take a 2 channel signal and give you a matrix surround sound
here is a good link http://www.dolby.com/consumer/techno...logic_IIx.html |

does your Yamaha have a auto calibration for the speakers? meaning did it come with a microphone you plug into it and then run some test tones? surround sound speakers will normally not sound as loud as your front speakers for movies.. you don't want that... they are there for surround sound effects.. not usually for voices. |

I think you have 2 issues:
1) Your rear speakers are probably not calibrated properly. Rear channel tracks are typically subtle. Too little volume and you will miss everything. Too much volume and it will overpower dialog and other sounds coming from the front. 2) I feel like you are expecting too much from "surround sound." 90% of a movie sound track is going to be produced by your fronts, center and subwoofer. |

Brett, you have two options that will improve movie listening experience.
Your first option, as long as your BDP has multichannel output, is to connect the BDP out to your multichannel input to get lossless uncompressed sound. There is a sticky by Crackinheads in the Receiver/Amplifer section that will completely breakdown all the settings and connections you need. Its called OLDSCHOOL RECEIVERS. This is a must read for people in your situation. If your BDP doesn't have multichannel outs, then your best bet is Digital Optical, or Digital RCA. I'm sure there are others that can better explain, however this should get you in the right direction. Good Luck |
