Finally got around to finishing this the other day. I'm ashamed to say it's my first time actually beating any version of RE4, despite absolutely loving it. When it first came out when I was a kid, it was just too difficult for me, since I was used to games like Crash and Spyro. I think I made it to the second fight with Krauser and just couldn't get past it for whatever reason. I picked up the Xbox One version a while ago, but life happened, and I ended up never making it past the castle. But this time I was bound and determined to finish it, and I did! Had a blast, too.
There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said a dozen times over, but it's just a good feeling game. Everything about it feels smooth and tended to. I don't miss the QTEs at all, and there was really nothing excised from the original that I found myself really missing. Luis was given a bigger, better role, and Ashley wasn't getting on my nerves all the time. It took me a little over 20 hours, but I also took my time to seek out the treasures, Clockwork Castellans, and enjoy some of the little details. I've never been one for speedruns or trophies or anything like that, I just like to enjoy a game and go at my own pace. Can't wait to play through it again! |

I don't do speedruns, per se. If anything, I may just see how fast I can beat a well loved game but I don't mess around w/ glitches. I beat it on the parameters intended and move on. ===== It's funny, I've beaten my 4th run on this thing. 1st run as a pure run on the regular setting. Almost got all that treasure on that 1st try. In some ways, I wished I started on Hardened but I feel I would have mucked that up w/ how aggressive some of the regular baddies are in comparison to its original. And that original's gameplay was so ingrained in me that nostalgia was sure set in. 2nd run getting all the cash to get the infinite rocket launcher. 3rd run, professional, was pretty much just enjoying my revenge w/ the infinite rocket launcher. Especially on those bastard Regenadores, in particular that special one. I've always hated them, not cuz they suck but because they point out how at times I don't do well with aiming fast. 4th one was on hardened w/ whatever guns I'd upgraded and went from there. Just kind of studying the world and how it's a bit different than the original. That tower in the village can't be abused. I love that they changed that. It was good spot back when. This game is truly a great remake. I want to get the infinite ammo accessory but i hate that I'd have to have Leon wear those ears during those cutscenes. I'd just have it like the original. Infinite ammo for the sweeper, launcher, and the magnum. Maybe infinite ammo isn't for me w/ this game. Hahaha. I just hate how it'd ruin my story immersion there. |

How did you save up the cash for the infinite rocket launcher on your 2nd run? I am thinking about selling most of my fully upgraded guns + treasures for the launcher, then doing another run for the money and buying back all those guns.

I wanted that rocket launcher very much so cuz of that room. And especially that special Regenador. They move so erratic that I struggle getting that last shot in for some reason. I barely ever so barely survived that special one the first time. I mean, I died a couple of times but I still got him on that first run eventually. ![]() Those types of enemies are not my forte. Moving all crazy and having to shoot them in specific spots. I'm a crap shot once they start going wild. Last edited by Mr. Chaverria; 04-27-2023 at 05:51 PM. |

![]() Those regenerators are tough, but I tend to just stay a distance before even attempting a shot; that extra distance also gives me just enough time to aim for all of those parasites. ![]() |

Did this on my pistol and knife playthrough. I was shocked how effective the knife turned out to be with this. The best part though was having them explode while on the ground after hitting and killing that last parasite. There are no words for how satisfying this is

![]() Obviously this modification is wonky. But, watching videos, I have not seen a single piece of dialogue that I prefer in the remake. The writing and delivery is always less fun and more stilted in its desire not to repeat. It's not just that the game is more serious, but also the delivery of lines. They say the same things differently as if they are aware that in some other reality they have already said it. But the line was said right the first time and there often isn't another way to say it that sounds organic and flows right. Sometimes imitation is best. |

I think its important to note, though, that I found that after doing 7 playthroughs and rebuying a lot of the weapons and fully modding them up for sh*ts and giggles, that any of the handguns will get the job done regardless of difficulty. |

Redtail and I can't remember if it was the S9 or the the SG-09. I just needed a laser at times. And a maxed out fighting knife is a monster against the Regenadores. Parrying their attack takes an arm off. After both are gone, just poke them w/ the knife when you get them on the ground. Easy win.
I really was worried about going against them on a handgun and knife run. But... that was easy. |
