It’s caused by the bottleneck in blockbuster releases last year. It should pick up in a couple of months when Avatar 2 hits and then we have more frequent blockbusters.
Oh, and they have always been luxury goods. Most people are content with shitty low bit streaming services (even better if they are free). |

Always has been, the good part is titles on BD and UHD BD disc cost a fair amount less than LD did.
Look at the chart below for US viewing, disc viewing % is included in the Other. 20 years ago it was probably similar except no streaming, broadcast, cable and satellite would have made up most of the chart. [Show spoiler]

My Zappiti system (NAS and player) is much more open. It appears on my LAN just like my 2 Synology NAS drives do. Have a SSD in the Neo where I store all my concert content. It too is accessible via the LAN. |

I haven't been following this thread. But it absolutely blows my mind DVDs make up around 2/3 of disc sales. These buyers just don't see or care about the difference on their 4K displays? Is it strictly about price for them? Or do they think they are watching 4K? I only mentioned 4K displays as they would have surely stuck with 1080p (or even SD displays) but 4K sets have been exclusively sold for a long time now. I realize some content (sports, older TV shows, etc.) is only available on DVD, but I would be surprised if this was the driving factor.

At some point if/when physical media is no longer made, I will transfer and protect my movie collection to a very large back-up drive. However, I'm confident that is a long time away. |

#2: Some content is only available on DVD - mostly TV shows. Here is an example: Season Six of ‘SEAL Team’ Headed to DVD May 23 March 13, 2023 https://www.mediaplaynews.com/season...to-dvd-may-23/ #3: Less than 50% of USA Households have a 4K TV. The rest - mostly HDTVs. |
