I was getting a couple of these problems with this player as well.

For the disc "grinding" noise, so far that's only been with the Transformers Bumblebee disc and it was a bad disc. None of my other movies do that.

I've had MANY longer runtime movies lock up around the layer change, most recently with HEAT.
There's a FB forum group "4K ultra HD Collectors" with a post from a Cody Dively with screenshots of the settings he uses that fixes the various issues.
Most importantly, and I think this was my issue, the firmware has to be up to date.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/3997...20dively%20700

You'll need to ask to be invited to the group.

I'll also try to upload the pictures here shortly.

I am just the "messenger" with these settings. Feel free to join that group and ask questions to the person who posted them in the first place. I'm not sure why he put some of these choices in his pictures, but this is what he offers as advice for people who have this player.

My Tenebre 4K disc (BD-100) absolutely choked this player, freezing about 5 different times.

Is there a way to do a firmware update that would allow this player to actually play BD-100 discs correctly?

Here are the 4K discs that I can't get to play on it:
Lord Of The Rings Extended Edition (all six discs lock up around ten minutes left)

Back To The Future (all three discs lock up in different places, also these red streaks start showing up randomly)

Jaws

Citizen Kane (Criterion)

The Godfather (I haven't even bothered trying the other films)

After the last firmware I actually got the LOTR discs to play through once. Tried again and they are back to lock up. And yes, I have made sure the discs are clean and there are no visible scratches.

I just watched the ending of Fellowship. From where the group lands on the riverbank at the end, before Boromir goes after Frodo, it didn't lock up. I'm going to rewatch the Bank Robbery scene in HEAT, which is the last movie it locked up on me before I made the changes previously listed.

Then I may watch Jaws...haven't watched the disc since I bought it so it's overdue.

After reading your posts, I decided to watch Jaws tonight. No problem at all on my X700 (European model)

My idea is that BD-100 discs pressed for the US (Mexico) are much worse than those pressed in Europe.

That's why the US X700 seems to be so erratic...

I have tried two Jaws discs and they both lock up when Brody gets the phone call about the girl's body being found. I actually just tried the first Back To The Future and it actually made it to where Marty gets home from the future which is the farthest it has ever gotten, then freezes up. At least the BDs play on my PS4.

That early in the movie?
I put my disc in, I'm at the scene where they scare everyone out of the water and the helicopters are flying overhead. Hasn't locked up yet.

I think I just got a really bad machine. It was out of warranty by the time I actually got around to buying 4K UHDs. It has been a problem ever since. It does play SACD flawlessly which is what I use it for now.

I've had no issues with Tenebrae, Back to the Future, or The Godfather on my player.

Because most of us weren't aware at the time of purchase since this player got the best reviews from all the major websites as the best budget player available in market. Can you please advise a Panasonic budget player that supports both dolby vision and hdr10? I think I need to upgrade my player now.

There is issues present in Tenebrae disc and its not the player's fault. My Tenebrae disc refused to play. I could see the title menu with no selection option. Have a look:

Then I played the same disc in my PS5 and PS5 showed disc error so apparently there is a bad badge. I asked Amazon for a replacement disc and the replacement disc played totally fine.

No. No loud grinding sound. Just player refuse to play. Once I switch off the plug from main source and turn it back on then it plays fine. If you are under warranty I advise you to replace it for a refund or get a new one. Grinding is definitely a problem. This player is very silent. The only noise I hear is once it loads the disc and some spinning disc sound for a couple of seconds but then its no noise.

Also I never had problems with Godfather or Jaws as other mentioned. Once I switch off and switch on then every disc plays fine without any hiccups.

I rarely have issues regarding playback of discs once they’re playing. I’ve watched all three extended versions of LoTR, The Godfather 1-3 as well as other longer films without issue.

I’ve had the player for over two years now so my warranty has expired by now and I don’t want to drop £200+ on another player just yet

Then just go with as things are going for now and let's hope it doesn't go bad. You never know it may serve you for a long time.

Think twice about leaving the quick start mode on. The UBP-800m2 (and I assume also the UBP-700) uses a lot of electricity with this mode when it's "off" (roughly 70-80 watts).

Last night Friday the 13th freeze during the climax boat scene. No buttons were working so had to switch off the plug and switch it back on and then it played well.

Don't you mean it uses more electricity when that option is turned on? That's what the set up screen says on my X700.
