A few nights ago I tried playing a blu-ray on my x700 and when the start menu came on, the screen was covered in lines and was glitching out. When I pushed play it just went to a black screen and never started playing. I tried several brand new discs and they all did the same thing. Any ideas?
Update - Just did a firmware update and it seems to be working great now. I'm not very tech savvy but I thought firmware updates were just that, updates? Is that normal for a player to not be working at all and then plays fine after an update? What in the update would fix something like that? Last edited by El Duderino81; 02-16-2023 at 05:56 PM. |

Firmware updates offer more than just the latest authorized BD+ AACS encryption codes to play the latest new releases. Firmware updates also fix player bugs. Over a wired ethernet connection they take less then 5 minutes to install and firmware updates come out sometimes once or twice a year depending on the brand and model of the player.

I just got this player last Sunday and I cannot get any track information or cd information when playing a cd. I've searched online for the answer and came up super short. I need help and fast.
I'm sure this may have already been answered, but I'm not wading through 125 pages. Sorry. |

Decided to watch the Kill Bill blu-rays the other night, when I put the blu-ray in, the miramax logo played, the loading symbol appeared, the the screen went yellow and the player totally locked up. Tried KB2, and the exact same thing happened, except the screen froze on red. You have to unplug the X700 to unlock it. Firmware is up to date, the player says it has a good internet connection. My other 4K disc and blu-rays seem to play fine, but neither KB blu-ray will. It seems unlikely two different blu-rays would go bad at the same time causing the exact same malfunction. I’ve tried both disc with blu-ray internet set to both “allow” and “don’t allow”, neither setting helped. Nor did resetting the player to factory settings. Any idea or suggestions?

I tried Bubba Ho-Tep again and it is back to locking up. I also tried the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre tonight which played back the first time and now it is locking up during the beginning of the dinner scene. Then Suspiria paused for a few seconds and then jumped about twenty minutes later. I have said it before but I am done with 4K at this point. I am not bothering with getting another player. If the UHD comes with a remastered BD I will pick it up, if not I will just stick to the BD I already own. Rant over.

This may sounds stupid, but have you tried wiping down the discs with your shirt or a soft cloth? Brand new discs occasionally have playback issues due to some residue left on the disc side itself following manufacturing. A quick wipe down more often than not results in smooth playback.
I have 2 of these players and outside of lock ups on my oldest player on maybe 3 occasions a few years ago, I've never had any issues with anything I've thrown at either of them. 1 has fully updated firmware and is connected to the internet, the other is still stock from the day I bought it and has never been connected online. |

Discs are clean with no visible scratches. I wiped them off with an eyeglass cloth too. Still have problems.
Luckily the 4K discs like The Big Lebowski, Unforgiven and Predator where the BD are trash seem to still work correctly. Last edited by stvn1974; 03-08-2023 at 04:15 AM. |

Those are all BD66 discs so obviously BD100s are your player's bugbear. Hopefully Sony is aware of this issue being common and they're working on a firmware update to solve it, but then again I'm usually too optimistic.
