I will keep mine until I get proof that it will not support standard DV profile.
Makes no sense for Sony to do that as it reduces the amount of customers they are selling too.
That's the same opinion I have as well. They would have hard time in selling a product with Dolby Vision as a feature for only for Sony TVs. Most average consumers would have no idea about the differences and that would be a trainwreck. My gut says it will support both only because it's financially dumb not to.

Someone over on AV forums spoke to Sony about the new products and was told X700 will support both formats of DV.

From what I was told Sony's X700 BD player will support all of Dolby Vision's profiles.

I'm hoping to get a Beta version of the DV upgrade for our UBP-X700 store demo unit and I'll be testing it on all DV capable TVs and source devices.

Last year I bought the X800 and had to return it immediately. I have a pioneer elite sc-25, so I was using both hdmi outs on the player. There was a big time problem with handshake for audio between the two units. Audio would go in and out every 10 seconds. No matter how I configured settings. I would also get disc error messages such as “no disc inserted”, or”incompatible disc”. This would occur with 4K discs. Anyone have similar issues with this player? Does anyone have it connected to an older receiver? Thanks for any input.

The main attraction here is Dolby Vision future firmware update from the Sony X700 4K Blu-ray player.
So yes it's very relevant, the implementation, the right TV matching, the learning curve, the speculation, the information so far, the comparison with other Dolby Vision products, Dolby, Sony products, LG products, Oppo DV players, ...all that jazz.

I am learning more when there are no restrictions from expanding my knowledge on what Sony is doing with his marketing strategy regarding the X700 over the X800, the improved apps, Dolby Vision's implementation in their Sony TVs in comparison to other manufacturers, their video processing chips, everything.

This is a great discussion, I am much more advancing than some other sites with bullies and the gestapo's interference.

Knowing what Sony's main interest is is important to the future direction.

Do you need Line of Sight to x700 for Remote to work?
If not I can put it Behind Display screen. Where I can't see it.
But Remote will still work.

Not if you have one of those babies:

With the lilliput X700's own remote you need a line of sight, between the player and the remote, infrared.

So, what's more reliable as a Blu-ray player, the Xbox One X, Sony X800, or the Sony X700? I'm planning on buying an XBox One X mainly for gaming anyways.

If you're already picking up an Xbox One X, and you're not bothered about Dolby Vision, then I'd just stick with that. There were some initial concerns around how it performed when it came to HDR but a firmware update fixed those.

If you're wanting Dolby Vision support in the future then the x700 wouldn't be a bad bet, though it is currently relatively unproven when it comes to DV support.

There's also the LG UP970 which now (at last) has DV support but the build quality leaves something to be desired (a number of units are extremely loud) and it has a few other odd quirks surrounding CEC implementation, but if you're happy with the fact you may need to send it back then it's worth a shot.

I have no deep colour problem on my x700 with my lg OLED. I had issues on up970 but was solved by buying better cable.

Is Sony smart enough in DV stuff to have x700 do DV by Summer 2018, as late as Summer's Aug?

In the mean time, Sony has revealed this week that it can no longer confirm to European Sony TV owners when the ill-fated Dolby Vision software update might start to roll out there.*

Who knows, given how badly this has already reflected on Sony they might hold off on the Euro TV update until their player update is also ready, or at least until OPPO have their update.

How is conncetivity between these both devices? I'm wondering, considering one is Sony and other is LG OLED. I'm also looking into X700.
