Hey Steve, I got the new replacement in the mail today and I'm happy to report that it played beginning to end without issue! Thank you so much for sticking with this and going above and beyond to ensure I got a working copy! The movie itself was a silly but fun show. I think I would have stayed on the planet, personally. Thanks again and I'll look forward to Alice in Wonderland once those get made!

I'm up at the college teaching all day, but there's a handful of people back at the office attempting to get as many things out daily as possible. I think as of today all the Grotesqueries, 1967 and Noveltoons are sent for pre-orders out of the states, and I think we'll have all the ones in the states sent before the end of the week. We don't have all the Toon Clubs done yet, so we may send all of those along with 'All Censored' (that
s finally almost done too). 1973 is now finished and half of another feature. 2nd Biker feature done, finally and need to work on menus. We may now have access to a nitrate print of one of the films in its original release. This is really cool because there were some animation 'fixes' done after that original release, and they've never been seen since as far as I know. It's minor stuff, but interesting from a historical perspective. We also have all the Boops in hand for the first volume.... but I'm debating whether to make these official sets or not. Would be nice to complete the face on the side of the packages that Olive started.... Last edited by Steve Stanchfield; 10-09-2019 at 05:36 PM. |

Is there a Betty Boop special set in the works? Did I miss that?

My vote is for an official set! Unless there are trademark issues. Betty Boop (chiefly Minnie the Moocher and Snow White) was my gateway drug into the wonderful world of vintage animation, and remains my favorite character. Love the Olive discs (though aware of their flaws) and have been collecting what public domain shorts I can piecemeal from Thunderbean. Needless to say I am hanging on every hint of this release... |

Since we're almost done with the Popeye in Technicolor set finally (and close on All Censored and others) and the other discs that are done are finally almost all out as of today, here's an offer for a 'semi-Official' set: The Other Betty Boops, Volume 1'
This set (a Blu-ray, most likely replicated) consists of *at least* 20 cartoons from the Fleischer studios, all scanned from original 16mm and 35mm prints. They are all cartoons left out of Olive films Betty Boop collections. Scanning has already begun, and as usual your 'crowd funding' will help make this set possible. The pre-order is limited to 100 copies and will be available through October 15th only. It's $16.95 plus $3 postage in the states, $8 to Canada and $12 to other countries. Because we've been so slow with Canada and other countries, if you have any other Thunderbean orders this set is free for you. Paypal, as usual, is steves@thunderbeananimation.com. Thanks to all for the support through these years and for keeping the faith! |

A question Steve- I know "Midnight Frolics" is a short you're fond of. I was showing it to some friends and was curious if you can shed any light on the "red cow" gag? The ghost who's trying to audition for the haunted house (who a youtube commenter says is an Al Pearce parody) holds his hands together and tells the other ghosts, "Guess what I got." "A cow?" "What color?" "Red?" and then a full sized phantasmal red cow jumps out of his hands, and the other ghosts slam the door. It could be a non-sequitur but I wondered if there was something to the joke I'm missing? Perhaps a forgotten pop culture reference or something like that...

Red Cow is a brand of bourbon. That's a prohibition joke. |
