Default Is 720 good for a blu-ray release?

Just wondering.

720 is HD, wherever 1080 is considered as being "full HD".

Well, does getting some footage shot on 720 mean preservation at great quality? And could the 720 material be used to create a blu-ray release out of it?

What about modern displays? Is 720-shot footage looking any good on them?

Thanks.

I own an older 42" 720P plasma TV that I still get some use out of and I think it looks great at normal viewing distances. Not as crisp as 1080P but still very good.

Quite reasonable.

I mean: no matter what you think, 720 is still HD, and not SD. So it's gonna look great and far superior to DVDs.

Me Too ... I think it's 42" ... it's a samsung I bought years ago on Black Friday that does 3D. I never use it for that .... it doesn't get a lot of use but I don't think it has any burn in.

Blu-ray is just a storage medium, the content burned to it doesn't have to be HD. There's a bunch of SD on BD German releases out there that don't have any HD content at all.

720p isn't used all that often, but there are a few releases that have stuff in that resolution.

1- I know, SDBD.

2- 720 is still HD, so I guess it's proper and legit if you want great picture image.
