As stated earlier Netflix has test files that has the bit rate embedded in the video so you could see the difference, in any, in the Apple HUD.
Should not state what others may or may not see. I would not buy an Apple till they fixed the integer frame rate issue. Dropped frames drives me crazy (we watch a fair amount of content with 24 and 25 fps), can not deal with rainbows from some DLP projectors, my Sony VW600 projector (133" scope screen) has a small shading error that annoys me, etc. Just installed my Apple TV 4K (2021) last night so it will be a while before I can do test. Have to finish my URC MX-980 remote programming for the Apple first. Do you follow Stacey Spears UHD Test Disc thread? There he has mentioned problems trying to render artifact free video using very high bit rates (80 to 110 mbps). The difference, he is using professional monitors (like the Sony BVM-HX310 here). They do not utilize noise reduction, frame interpolation and other video processing that can mask video artifacts like consumer TV’s can. My streaming gear (not up to date) here. |

Will check on Netflix and feedback. Netflix has gone downhill with HD streaming for many months. For 4K HDR, numbers haven't changed much based on what I am seeing on both ATV and FireTV developer HUD. |

Screenshot of ATV developer HUD from Netflix Beckett 4K Dolby Vision DD 5.1.
You can see that Super 35 grain quite easily and it looked very good to my eyes. The video bit rate never dropped under 15 Mbps during my 5 minutes of viewing. At times it touched 17 Mbps and 21 Mbps once and then quickly dropped back to 16.xx Mbps. Last edited by lgans316; 08-19-2021 at 03:42 PM. |

Video data via the internet is not delivered as a continuous data stream, it comes in burst. Below is the data stream info (2 captures) while watching a HD show from Netflix on a Windows 10 Pro PC, no other programs were running during this period. IIRC the Netflix debug screen video bit rate was about 6.5 Mbps. The debug below is reference, not from the show is I was doing.

Yes I am aware of that as I have worked on writing data streaming applications. The bit rate is calculated over a short time window and displayed. Anyway the numbers are 99% accurate and the 4K HDR streaming quality is good.
HD streaming - The bit rates are very poor. Somehow they don't look like DVD but nothing to rave about. Last edited by lgans316; 08-20-2021 at 08:52 AM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() It appears streamers just do not want us to know what data rates we are actually seeing. I have a used Mac Mini coming just to activate Playback HUD. Is there some good reason why Playback HUD could not already be activated on the Apple TV? |

The thing that gets me about streaming is that they can improve or worsen the experience at any time without notice. I was tempted to buy a digital copy of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington a while ago but refrained when I saw that none of the info displayed all the way up to the purchase screen even told me if it was in 4K or HD. Here in Australia it's also hard which version will be the best picture quality wise, often a given film will be on multiple platforms but you won't know which to pick without pressing play. I'm sticking with my discs for now.

Most likely bowing out of this thread as well.
If anyone needs help with ATV / FireTV, bit rates etc. PM me but stop spreading misinformation just because you hate something. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...24&postcount=1 Last edited by lgans316; 09-02-2021 at 09:37 PM. |
