At the funeral for her husband, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall put a whistle in his coffin. It was a reference to the famous line in the film where she says to him: "You know how to whistle, don't you? You just put your lips together and blow."

Yes, groundbreaking stuff for the time. Hammer horror is a whole different ballgame. Even enjoyed their 80’s tv series.
Used to sneak downstairs and watch as a kid!

You got the quote slightly wrong.

It is from the the movie To Have And Have Not. The full quote by actress Lauren Bacall is:

"You know you don’t have to act with me, Steve. You don’t have to say anything and you don’t have to do anything. Not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don’t you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow."

Excellent collection of films there.
You'll enjoy Christopher Lee's City of the Dead, very atmospheric and eerie. Probably one of my favourite of Lee's non-Hammer films.

That Val Lewton set looks great. I don't have it unfortunately, but I do remember seeing Bedlam and The Leopard Man as well, which I think are also included here.

Love your new avatar by the way.

I haven't spoken to my dad in 20 years.. The best way I could describe him is as a cross been Yosemite Sam and a member of ZZ TOP. He is (was? I don't know if he's still kicking)a huge John Wayne and classic Western fan. He kinda enjoyed sticking out like a sore thumb up here in the great white north...

If it's not called UNFORGIVEN or directed by TARANTINO, I'll give it a pass..

I love the Hammer films too mate. If my memory serves me correctly, sometime in the late 70's/early 80's when BBC used to put on horror double-bills on a Saturday night, I think they would sometimes put on a Hammer film followed by one of the Universal horrors. For me, this was pure TV heaven.

The 80's TV series is brilliant. I take it you'll have the superb blu-ray set from Network.

I found The Woman In Black tv adaptation to be superior to the film. More subtle and a general less is more approach. Some chilling scenes in this one.

Nice that they included a widescreen version as well as the original format.

Yeah, and they did something similar a couple of years later with Friday fright night. Happy memories. British are best at atmospheric horror.

My father's experiences in Vietnam caused him to live an exceptionally violent life. When I decided to have children, I decided to cut him out of my life...
The trade off was more than worth it...

I watched it in theaters. It was my first Cronenberg movie. There were some parts that made me squeamish but overall it wasn't as hard to watch as I was expecting. I liked it but the ending felt rather anti-climactic.

I am not a fan of Cronenberg for the most part. I think the last movie I liked of his was Eastern Promises. Will pass on this one probably.

It was a Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies cartoon called "Bacall To Arms." Bugs Bunny is not in it.

I was involved in the financing of EASTERN PROMISES. Sad to hear that his wife has passed since then, as she would often come into my branch to handle the day to day stuff as filming was going on, and give us a little inside info. She was a very pleasant lady.

I've heard great things about it. I believe this is getting a 4K disc release in January, so I will wait it out until then.
