That post content looks a lot like what showed up on AVS yesterday I think. The OP didn't have a picture of his HD-DVDs that had the cloudy look so he posted pics he found that looked similar. I don't believe anything has been confirmed. I'm sure we'll see it pop up on some news sites if the problem is more widespread than a few disks.
Is it OK that I don't believe stuff that is semi-anonymously posted on forums? |

IIRC the poster posted that the pic is what his "looked" like.
HD DVD's suffering from rot is old news though http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=831431 |

Now it makes sense that Amir at AVM$ had talked about apologizing about the whole BD disc rot and said that it was something to do with a batch of discs that had a contaminate in making the discs. Maybe he knew the same thing would happen to HD-DVD

In any case the proper way to remove a DVD, HD-DVD, or blu-ray is to press the center button to help pop the disc and gently lift the disc from the edge. If you keep prying off your disc, each time creates microfractures that build up with each release, and eventually delaminate the disc and let contaminents in. Namely moisture. I expect above is related to the combo problems. DVD-18 has an inherent problem with stresses being introduced that either break (delamination) or twist the data layer out of tolerance (problems reading HD DVD side). Gary |

It's a conspiracy, I tell you! That's why I don't put my collections near each other. There's some kind of contagion turning the discs into meltware or something!
Next, your 4K discs will self destruct after they release the new ultraware Betamax players! It's all to make you keep upgrading! Jokes on them, they'll never get my 8 track! |

Pretty funny that HD DVDs have higher rot rates than Laserdiscs (which are where the term "laser rot" originated I believe):
https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=10760 I shudder to think at what movie collecting might have become if HD DVD had won... Very possible that physical media (at least high-definition) would truly be dead. Not that any of the HD DVD shills would have minded, they all immediately started singing the praises of streaming as soon as Warner announced they'd be going Blu-ray exclusive back in 2008. |
