Ask HD-DVD collectors how well the loss of a major studio goes.

Maybe the MGM archives will be opened up to view. Why wait forever to see what in the vault. You know you can't sell media if the stuff never see the light of day to get people interested. Oh wait someone here buys a lot of things blind buy!

So long as they are supporting physical media, I don't care if they did their research thesis on them first or if they bought them all while blind folded.

This is Apple we are talking about. Most of it will need editing to fit their ‘family friendly’ persona. Apple will be very selective over what films they put out there.

I do blind buy. I wouldn’t watch a film any other way. My first experience of a film should be in pristine quality. That’s just the way I play it.

Your way behind the times, those 2018 Family Friendly articles Apple TV+ don't relate to reality. Thats fake news, they let the content writers handle their own scripts. Someone made up a rumor about Tim Cook writing on scripts " Don't be so mean". Look at some of their content being advertised think a 8 year should be watching it?

Personal note, haven't seen anything that would inspire to use AppleTV+ yet.

Lots of cool and original content on there. You're missing out, especially at the $4.99 USD per month price.

Tonight I watched my non-anamorphic DVD copy of The Abyss Special Edition extended cut. I used one of the many zoom settings offered by my Oppo 203 to compensate for the annoying non-anamorphic presentation.

It was a passable viewing experience for a 17 year-old DVD, but damn you James Cameron, and to hell with all of your unwanted Avatar sequels, for not releasing both cuts of this movie (and True Lies) in high definition and, ideally, in 4K. Pull your head out of Avatar's ass long enough to approve the damn completed remasters already. This movie, and True Lies, deserve better than to languish on ancient non-anamorphic dvds!

You do know its eventually coming see https://www.instagram.com/p/Buji4C_gkc_/
This was mentioned in March, promised end of the 2019 approximately, but now Disney has the reins. Disney has a True Lies TV reboot coming to Disney +, imagine True Lies will make it there also.

I play it though MPC-HC and just zoom it in a bit using the "9" key on my number pad. Either that or you can play it with VLC and then use the Crop setting on 16:9 and it looks decent. That's why I love DVDs. You can pretty much play all of them on a computer without ripping or anything.

I don't care about what may make it to a streaming service; I care about what makes it to disc and in this case to either a blu-ray or a 4K disc. I didn't buy my Oppo 203 and my 85" Sony 4K TV because I wanted to stream my favorite movies.

I wasn't particularly discussing streaming, I said if it makes it to Disney + as 4K it will likely come out on media. You can now go back to your ancient DVD's.

Yet you specifically name a streaming service. There is no mention of "media" anywhere in your comment. You specifically reference Disney+ followed by "True Lies will make it there." The only "there" in that sentence is Disney+. I don't care what may someday be showing on Disney+.

My Oppo 203 does a great job with even my ancient DVDs; its ability to play all disc formats so well is kinda why I bought it.

Look at the instagram link. True Lies reboot show coming to Disney + likely the movie also.

I looked at the image only, you know because instagram=pictures, and there is no physical media shown in it. I don't read hashtag # sign gibberish.

For the third time: I do not care what is coming to any streaming service.

I have VLC on my computer, but I watch movies on my TV. The zoom function on the Oppo 203 allowed me to make the most of my TV screen's real estate and that real estate far exceeds that of my computer monitors. My Oppo 203 does far more for my DVDs than VLC media player, too.

I don't see True Lies being on Disney+ ever. It has a better shot at being put on HULU, which you can already access via the HBO-add on subscription. The Abyss has a better shot at being placed on Disney+. The theatrical cut can also be accessed via HULU through the HBO add-on subscription if one does not have HBO directly.
