Much to my surprise, my 4K disc edition of 1917 was delivered today and a day before its release day. This was my first "disc+digital" order from Vudu, fulfilled by Walmart, and seeing as Walmart is prioritizing the shipment of essential items above all else I am surprised to get this so promptly.

Nothing official. They're talking about it on this thread:

And I noticed it myself yesterday that if you go over to a product listing there's a disclaimer bolded in red that say "This item cannot be shipped to the United States."

For example:

I pre-ordered Casino Royale 4K and it won't be delivered until Saturday, which is fine, I'm in no rush. Amazon. I'm surprised you got it on release date.

And yes, TV makers want you to upgrade like every hardware manufacturer does.

Another benefit to 8K TVs is that the best ones come with tactile touchy feelie screens like what you find on fuzzy blacklight posters. While enjoying your 8K TV at arm's length viewing distance you can reach out and touch someone. Watching a nature/animal documentary becomes your own personal petting zoo!

Got my eye on this, a bigger version could be cool depending on price. Could be a pretty cool toy.

But now, we're reaching the end of what the human eye can see and any upgrade would be minimal at best.

Feel free to buy an 8K TV and check for yourself. I won't, because I know it's diminishing returns. 4K Blu Ray is worth it, mainly for the HDR and WCG. I see no benefit of 8K, given the screen size and the distance I sit at. Swapping my 4K TV for an 8K TV (of the same size) would be like expensive snake oil. The studios have to keep making newer TV's or the market will stagnate, but I've read numerous articles that say it's already as good as it gets - technology wise. One of them mentioned the Microwave, which has stayed the same for many years, as we reached the limits of what it can do.

The ONLY reason I would upgrade is if my TV broke down and 8K was the same price as 4K.

8K has 0.1% of the market in Japan (despite the upcoming Olympics being broadcast in 8K there) and 1% of the market worldwide atm.
I noticed a big difference on my projector but slightly less so on the OLED (but still very noticeable)

The day before actually; it's only Monday.

Delivery was estimated for Friday, so I am pleasantly surprised. I remember a time when Amazon delivered pre-orders a day early, but that stopped well before the pandemic. I rarely do pre-orders with Amazon now instead waiting until I know if they actually have what I want in stock.

41 days after Ford V Ferrari was released and Amazon still does not have any in stock thanks to their never ending feud with Disney, which now owns Fox. Another title that I easily bought elsewhere.

An 85" or bigger version of that and my last tethers to reality can finally be severed!

I visited Amazon.uk and I am not seeing any blanket restrictions other than a disclaimer that says some shipments are taking priority over others.

Only one of the items in my wishlist has that "does not ship to the U.S." restriction, but that was always the case with that one item. Everything else on my wishlist appears to be available.

I don't have a wishlist but every single one of the items that I searched for does not ship to the U.S. Unless they're from a 3rd party vendor. Also, their search function does not pick keywords as easily anymore, so I wonder if they're truncating searches. Amazon has one of the best search functions in the business, so when it takes me forever to find something, then something is up.

What did you do to make them mad? All but that one item in my wishlist looks to have the green light.

I was looking at discs on my wishlist at Amazon and discovered that the discs they themselves sell all have an estimated delivery date of April 21 and that's with a Prime membership.

I knew Amazon was prioritizing the shipment of items deemed essential, and rightfully so, but I had no idea that the delivery of toys were being delayed by this much. This will only add to the beating that disc sales will be taking during these difficult times.

All non-essentials are delayed up to a month. Hell, even some essentials are delayed up to a month.

I understand; I do, I just did not realize the delay was this long. I can redirect my purchases to other online sellers that specialize in the selling of more trivial pursuits. It is just another minor inconvenience.

Amazon.com is doing the same all orders i was trying out for last like 2 days do not ship to me here in Ireland anymore.

So looks like all of the Amazon sites are not doing international shipping at the moment.

An other thing to add to the world in chaos.

Disney+ just launched in the UK.

I checked two films in 4K Dolby Vision, the Empire Strikes Back and Beauty and the Beast, both looked incredible. I wonder if they've lowered the bitrate? And if they have how much does it affect it? Because it clearly was in 4K and Dolby Vision. Obviously it's not gonna be disc quality but it was close. Makes me wonder if all this SD talk is just nonsense, or if we'll start to see a worse picture in the coming days... who knows? But right now I'm like a kid at christmas.

The Mandalorian, Star Wars, Pixar and live action remakes in Dolby Vision

From Amazon UK to your home? Or from Amazon USA? It seems like my order is delayed by 4 to 5 days.

I was referring to our domestic Amazon; I always indicate when I mean Amazon.uk or .fr or .de, etc.

I placed orders with both Amazon.uk and Amazon.fr at the beginning of the month before the pandemic exploded into what it is now and those orders were delivered as expected. I do not plan to order from them again until May and as fast as things are changing I have no idea what to expect tomorrow yet alone that far ahead.

I do not know about Disney+, but all that Netflix did in Europe was to reduce their bitrates by about 25%.

If you enjoyed what you saw with Disney+, then that's all that matters anyway.

Meh. Message me when we have high bit rates and a cracking Dolby a Atmos track. 20 years time?
