That's pretty amazing to me. Abandoned fast.

Well the online movie schemes are here today, gone tomorrow.

I'm very glad I went back to buying discs.

I used to use Sony Ultra, most of the Movies on there were 4K. I thought their Quality was Amazing. I still have the App on the Android screen. The last time I checked it said that a new access was coming. I'll have to check it out again to see how to access this new service. Quality Streaming is here, and if you have the Bandwidth it's easy enough to check. When I talked to their Techs, they said they were moving away from Discs and Streaming was their Future!

Talking about Sony here is more information on their Bravia XR:

Let say your favorite TV shows has been made available on Netflix or Prime Video, and 2 months later you found out that show (the one that is your favorite from your childhood) is no longer available. That's exactly the situation with mine.

I've been wanting to watch The Outer Limits (the 1963 version) ever since I've first heard about it 15 years ago. When it was made available in HD on Prime Video last year (I believe), I was excited and I watched like 9 or 10 episodes on Prime. But now recently, I wanted to watch another episodes (I didn't get chance for the last few months because of priorities changes), but when I logged in to Prime Video and tried to find it, I found out it's no longer available, and it looks like it may never return to Prime Video.

This is why I find streaming frustrating, and hence why I have a love-hate relationship with streaming. The Outer Limits disappearing from Prime Video is one of the reason of that love-hate relationship with streaming.

I get your frustration, truth is that is one of the reason I started buying ages ago. You would go to the rent the film you wanted to watch and it was rented out or taken off the shelf to make room for more content.

Some people buy what is important for them (when I want to watch X I have to be able to watch X) and rent/stream what is a time waster (I want to watch something and I am sure I will find something good enough). For some it is all time wasters (using above) and for me and others it is all important (even when it is a time waster- I have my unwatched shelf which is full of content that I bought, days weeks and months ago but that I have yet to put in my BD player)

My point is peoples economic outlook can play a role (it is much more expensive to buy then just to rent) and so someone can go from renting more/less/exclusively to buying more/less/exclusively but the reality that buying means you have control while renting means the rent company has control has been reality for decades and for the most part people are set in their choices.

Maybe a streamer will say Outer limits is good so i will buy it so that i can watch it when prime gets rid of it but there is little chance that he will say I will quit prime.

And when you redeem a code you purchased that was included with a disc you state you own the disc version but you do not. You have no credibility here and post only anecdotal evidence so you should refrain from such statements.

I used to deal direct with Sony representatives from the professional division here. They dealt only with that division and had little info from other divisions, they could purchase item from other divisions at MSRP minus a fixed % of employee discount.

The professional division used to sell direct to clients via Sony employees and may still operate in that fashion. Most purchases were putout on closed bid. In some cases Sony and one more would meet the specifications and is one reason we had so much Sony equipment.

I may have some of my old bids on disk if anyone is interested in pages of boring reading , just send me a PM.

Codes for new Movies are nonexistent, people that buy Movies use them or the disc didn't have one. I buy my Streaming Movies on Vudu now, they have great deals. The last one was $15 for Tenet 4K UHD, it was okay and with my Headphones I could hear everything!

As for talking to the Techs at Sony that was years ago when I was having problems with the resolution on a couple of Movies. The Techs just gave me the feeling they were moving away from Discs!

More like all Sony's stores closed and those techs got laid off.

Hey JohnAV how are you doing this New Year? Those were Support Techs at Sony Ultra, I'm sure most are still there and working on a new service. I'll have to check it out and get back to you guys!

You might enjoy my recent post speaking of older times. But Sony historically has their divisions marketing competing solutions not necessarily in the same direction. So IMHO Sony at times is like this.

Last time I looked we discuss both. We even rate movies playing in theaters or streaming.

We discuss both but if Alchav would stop pretending a good internet connection results in Streaming being equal to disc quality we may run out of things to talk about.

We do but the Mods has already warned that poster with:

Default Vudu and Boardwalk Empire

Several days ago I redeemed my code for my Boardwalk Empire Blu-ray box set at Vudu and it responded with something like “You now own Boardwalk Empire” and asked if wanted ro continue to “My Vudu” which I did not do. A few days later I checked Vudu for Boardwalk Empire and it was not there. That is the first time I have had that happen to me. I have discarded the code so I can not retry.

So from now on when I redeem my codes I will make sure it shows up at the redeemed provider and would suggest other redeemers do the same.

Check your purchase history under account settings and see if the title is listed there; even titles redeemed from disc combo packs are shown there.

Also, contact Vudu's customer support; they should have a record of your code redemption.

Just in case you (and other projector owners) did not know and something positive. Stewart Filmscreen has a new one, StudioTek 130 G4 with 1.3 gain and no sparkles. It can be perforated. Kris Deering did an article in Sound & Vision. I intend to give it a go in the near future. Should give 3D Blu-rays a boost.

Yup! I use that screen and I wrote a review of it.

Thanks, will do?

How is the speaker install going?

Watched the UHD BD of Air Force One last night and IMO, Columbia/Sony did a worthwhile new Atmos mix for this title. Worth the upgrade.

Well, my friend got them mounted to the wall. They look nice up there.

Another friend should be coming by today to help me connect the speaker wire. I am also rewiring the floor level surround speakers as the new wire I purchased is better. A second set of hands makes running all of this wire a lot easier.

What brand and wire type did you purchase? Are you using one piece banana plug or two piece banana plug for the connections?

lol

first of all the person answering the help line is not the guy making the decisions. So anything they say like this should be taken with a shovel of salt

second I don't know about the Sony Ultra team at the time but many companies (including some Sony divisions) are outsourced so there is a good chance the person is not even a sony employee

Lastly and more importantly assuming the conversation was real and you did not misinterpret the conversation, in Early 2019 Sony announced they were dropping the service and it was dropped mid 2019. Isn't it time, no matter what you were told to realize Ultra was not the future and disks were in no way going to disappear soon, no matter how much you believed that guy at the time.
