True Lies is a bootleg on a pressed disc.

Thank you. I must admit I was nearly tempted, but decided not to go with it due to their reputation for bootleg releases. I guess we're in for a long wait before we get (or maybe I should say IF we get) an official release.

I have read from several sources that new masters have been done of True Lies and The Abyss for a while now and that they are waiting for James Cameron to approve them. Once he gets around to it I guarantee there will be a physical release, possibly to tie into the Avatar sequels. Disney knows how high the demand for those titles are and will never turn down a merchandising opportunity.

Thanks Ender14, I didn't know about the new masters, so that's great news. And you're right about Disney - they are no fools. They will realise there's an opportunity here to make sacks of money from both of these films.

I narrowly avoided it thanks to this forum. Such a shame as it's in my top want list for ages.

You shouldn’t, unless your concern is based in morality alone. It’s as good as you could ever want a bootleg to be, and holds its own with most authentic discs, circa 2006-2007.

Walmart says that $15 is the Sweet Point for Disc Sales. bhampton doesn't want to pay more than $20 for WW84, and most here are happy paying $10 or less for 4K Discs. I don't know the pricing of making good 4K UHD Discs, but I think it's more than you guys are willing to pay!
I don’t have a pricing goal with the 4 that I plan on purchasing, as I enjoy picking certain titles up on Day 1. Other titles I wait a bit on. I believe in supporting this hobby of mine that has provided decades of entertainment, stress relief, and giving me something to look forward to. With that in mind, I have no issues in paying Day 1 prices to support the industry. I also order most of my titles from Amazon supporting this very site we are on.

Side note...I have Elysium 4K and Greenland on order for next week, and also Synchronic coming as well.

A point most will not resonate with no matter how many times we tell them how much we paid for LaserDisc titles. Paid $50 for The Beastmaster and $33 for Silent Madness 3D from Vinegar Syndrome. Sounds like a lot but I paid a lot more than that (in 2020 $$) for the LaserDisc version of The Beastmaster.

I have offered to find dealers with large front projection rooms with immersive audio so some here could see and hear what some of us experience on a daily basis but no one has accepted.

Anyone know anything about Vilya? Last post was 1/27.

Wonder if the Donster has plans for Starlink.

Here's hoping Monster Hunter is watchable and has a great Atmos mix. I don't even care if it is a bad movie just need something new for the collection.

I am on the fence with that one, but will probably still grab it. One of may favorites last year that snuck by a lot of people was The Outpost. It is only a 5.1 mix, but will test your system and put you right in the middle of the action. Great movie too based on a true story, and less than $10. Highly recommended.

Are you picking up the new cut of Justice League? Intrigued with that one.

Also, did you pick up Inferno 3D?

Same wishes to Vilya.

His original comment was just the first line, later he added the second, later the comment about going through a medical ordeal was worrisome as I was online at the time. Then nothing from him for a week.

That is a concern. I'm also wondering about some of their original Disney+ content.

I would love to get physical releases of The Mandalorian (which is the best thing to come out of the Star Wars franchise since Disney acquired it), and the new MCU series that also tie into the movies. Since I collect the MCU movies, I want to get the shows as well to keep with that collection

Even though I have Disney+, I would still love physical releases of these shows. And they are from major properties that will likely sell well enough to justify production.

That said, most here who are on the "pro-physical" side are still likely using at least 1 or 2 streaming services as well. And while it may continue to be questionable if a lot of content that is original to those services will ever get physical releases, that is no reason IMO for me to stop buying titles that do get released physically.

Certainly the decline in physical media sales is generally concerning since the more it declines, the more likely it becomes for some things to not get releases.

However, as for why I still collect it with it being in decline (in addition to reasons such as quality and control over my collection)... I believe I've said something like this before somewhere on these forums, but the reason why I collect physical media in general is more or less the same reason why I would buy a niche/obscure title... because I enjoy it and it is something that I want to have regardless of how popular it is or is not.

I'm sure most everyone here has at least a few movies and TV shows that they really enjoy that are not the most popular or most well known titles. And regardless of what methods (physical and/or streaming) those titles are available through and which available method(s) one chooses to view them, I doubt that most anyone here would say that no one should enjoy those titles just because they aren't as well known and popular as others. And if actually someone were to come into this thread saying that no one should enjoy some niche indie/smaller/older film when major blockbusters exist and are widely available, most everyone here (regardless of their preference to physical media or streaming) would likely tell that person how stupid and ridiculous that is.

Well, the reason for preferring and collecting physical media is more or less the same. It's the method that some prefer for various valid reasons (quality, consistency, not having to worry about a title getting "pulled"), and it's a ridiculous notion that they should stop doing that just because it is not the "most popular" method.

I find it funny how this seems to be lost on some people who argue in favor of streaming - especially member(s) that like to argue in favor of streaming, keep hammering about the decline in physical media, acting like those of us who prefer it are crazy, but then need to be regularly reminded that they still collect and rely on physical media (and many of the indie distributors licensing titles from the studios) for many titles that are not easily available and accessible through streaming. It's as if they wake up every day with selective amnesia and need to be reminded of this fact that they have somehow completely forgotten (it's the "50 First Dates" of movie watching and collecting).

Probably will pass, from my own notes:

Dolby Atmos used very little. Surround use was good. No shaky cam but most of movie was constant motion.
But that is just my take on the title and reluctant to post.

While I would love a physical release of The Mandalorian, WandaVision and other Disney+ content I'm not sure we'll ever see that. I could be wrong, and maybe down the road they will provide a physical release but I think at the moment they are using those to sell Disney+. Maybe once the shows have ended they will release full series boxed sets, which would be fine with me.

If they wanted to maximize their revenue potential they could at least release them as Disney Movie Club exclusives because I'm sure a ton of new people would sign up to get those discs. I would if I weren't already a member.
