We did a 15.66 lb bird here for just my wife and I as this is my favorite meal of the year and leftovers are the gift that keeps on giving.

All this talk of Americans celebrating Thanksgiving makes me realize, that if he is still alive, my dad is probably sitting down to a turkey dinner right now...and his wife is probably using the techniques I taught her...

One thing I'll give her is she made a pretty mean turkey soup out of the carcass.. I may have to get a bigger bird on Christmas lol..

I was gifted a turkey from the local councilman of our district and my mom made a pozole stew out of it. I'm Mexican-American and we generally don't eat turkey let alone bake one with the trimmings. I know some Mexican friends that are also like that -- Mexicans don't eat turkey as much as Americans do.

The turkey pozole my mom made was epic. She even added a couple of beef feet in there so that the stew could grab some flavor and it was great. Just had a slice of caramel-walnut apple pie. I'm pretty much set for the rest of the evening. I watched the 4K disc of Quiet Place II and that was a phenomenal disc. I'm contemplating on what to watch next. I have a nice bottle of brandy for later but ran out of eggnog, so will probably drink it straight and slowly.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I don't like how Redbox used looks like "forgot to return" as it's the same packaging as the rentals and the discs have stickers on them and naturally don't come with the online copy but if that doesn't matter then they have deals too good to pass up. It's tempting to wait out the rental cycle. Why rent when you know it's going to be there at almost dollar store prices. I would love for my local Redbox to carry UHD BD but it's not available near me yet. Having their app is useful because they give $1.75 off a $2 rental often.

I did buy one that was cracked in half but as I remember I txted them and they reversed the charge instantly. All I remember is resolving it was fast. I certainly have a good look at anything I buy or rent there. The rentals are usually needing to be cleaned of fingerprints.

As suggested I updated the ATV 4K to tvOS 15.1.1, several days later went to use HUD and the Developer option was missing. So went to the Mac Mini and opened Xcode and tried to access the ATV and Xcode said it was locked. So I deleted the pair in Xcode and the ATV and started the process of repairing.

Entered the 6 digit number and Xcode pops up a window saying I am using tvOS 15.1.1 and the current Xcode is not compatible with that version. Updating Xcode is not trivial as it is about 12GB in size. Late night it has updated so will try again in the next day or so.

Really wish the providers could get together and come up with a common info solution like Googles “Stats for Nerds” or Amazons info screens that is accessible on my Nvidia Shield Pro.

Rant over!!

Redbox comes in clutch but stopped using them when the pandemic hit since it would require additional trips to the kiosk that I didn't need to make.

Outside of a few fingerprints here and there all of the discs I have ever bought from them have always worked perfectly.

Happy Holidays valiant warriors. I’ve moved to Lufkin, TX and my sweetie and I are in the process of moving into a house. My body is aching at the moment, especially my knees. I’m looking forward to getting us moved out of this 2nd story apartment and in there. Thank goodness we were able to hire a couple of helpers to move the remaining furniture. Enough about that. Looking forward to getting our tv’s up and running with Suddenlink. It’s been too long since I’ve streamed and played my Xbox. I’m going to try and track down some physical discs during the holidays.

A basement location with a dehumidifier really seems to help!

I've never bought a disc thinking that it would last forever. The one thing I've learned from buying discs is that no purchase will ever be the last purchase of a title that I care to own.

Long before a given format wears out, I will be buying the title on a newer format or in a remastered version on the same format. T'was ever thus chicken little...
did anyone actually read the article? or do people just read titles and comments?

from the article

Quote:
"I just got fed up with the fact that something, even though it is available anywhere, kind of almost has an expiration [date] to it because of licensing," he said. "It just made sense to have a physical copy in my hand."
I agree with him owning a physical copy is way more then dependable then digital

Quote:
The 10- to 20-year time range for DVDs and Blu-rays is based on how the discs fared under prolonged exposure to high heat and humidity,
I don't know about you guys but I don't store my media in my steam oven they are on shelves in my home where there is neither extreme heat or humidity (for our own well being and comfort as well as everything else I own. probably why I have CDs that are over 35 years old and still work

Quote:
could end up being 40 to 60 years.
we will see soon (with CDs) if the 40 year mark makes sense. But either way, anything I have already bought will last as long as it does. I am 51years old, if what I buy now lasts (and I don't want to replace them with something better in the meantime) 40-60 years I will be 91-111 a better question is if I will "wear out" before them.

Just finished binging Cowboy Bebop on Netflix and the 4K DV / Atmos was great. The live action adaptation was fun.

Received my copy of Menace II Society and Citizen Kane on 4K disc, so will probably make it a Criterion Collection weekend.
