I get what you are saying. Obviously if I watch in my HT I won't play the BD or DVD or digital. And I will obviously choose to watch a film in my HT so do I really need 4 copies one crappier than the other? no

But what if someone just has a HD TY and BD player and is thinking I will buy this and watch the BD until I need to upgrade the TV and get a UHD player? I still have friends with cottages (second home in the country) where the only thing there is a DVD player, a set like this means I or someone else can bring the DVD to watch at the cottage.


I know there are some here that think making a disk costs a lot but when in reality it costs next to nothing it is a way of making some customers that might care for more than one format happy and a way to make it easier for people to buy.

Personally, if there is an option UHD with less formats (for environmental reasons) I will pick it, but in the end if the case has 1,2 or 3 or an extra piece of paper I don't care that much.

I'm tempted to lower the netflix plan to the cheapest one but that's because I don't use it and my kids who use it don't watch on 4K displays anyway. Also, ... I think if anyone uses it it's the kids who are away at college. If they make it so I can't share it with them then it's easy for me to cancel.

don't forget the plans have a concurrent user count attached to them

Premium has 4 players, standard 2 and basic (with or without ads) 1. and the one with ads does not include all the content

For some reason a yellow and black boombox looking thing gets a pass... I think it's maybe the idea that the speaker looks nothing like a speaker.

Nice selection, but be aware that Sound Of Metal is missing the subtitles for the sign language sequences in the movie. A movie where deaf characters are central to the movie no less. These subtitles are present in the streamed versions.

People have been writing to Criterion to fix this problem, but so far there has been no official response.

Historically, Criterion has been excellent about correcting problems. Here's hoping that tradition is still alive and well.

In the Sound of Metal thread this was posted:

Criterion got back to me and said this: "I can confirm that there is only one SDH option on our SOUND OF METAL release, and that you are accessing it correctly. I can also confirm that there are variations between the SDH track available on our SOUND OF METAL release and what is streaming on Amazon. We've noted your concern and passed along your email to our Production team for further review and consideration."

So I guess we'll see what happens.

A significant amount of dialog in the form of subtitles is missing due to this error and this error only appears on the Criterion disc release. The absence of subtitles during the scenes where only sign language is being used is a big issue.

I would not read very much into that initial response to a single forum member's query beyond that Criterion is still investigating the situation. This release is not even two month's old yet. The more people that write to Criterion requesting that they fix this oversight the better the chances are that they will do so.

Yeah. I was on the fence even at $10. The movie that is a great deal at $6 which kinda snuck by some folks however is Copshop. If you or anyone liked Bullet Train, you should like it also. Some assassins and bad guys going at it with a bit of humor thrown in. Doesn’t have the big names in it like Bullet Train, but still had a blast with it. Good looking and sounding disc also.

It doesn’t look good for my decision, but Hey! Vilya bought USS Indianapolis also! It looks like we both had a momentary lapse in judgement. I grabbed Moonfall mostly for the technical merits as the video and audio are supposed to be impressive.
