Hello pot, meet kettle. Go look in the mirror.

Some of the disc supporters here have invested quite a bit into streaming. Have a look at this post here tell me what you see. That’s right, quite an investment just for streaming. My total streaming cost per month > $100, what is yours?

Also invested a lot of time doing graphics for URC remote that is used to control streaming devices along with many other things in the home theater. Shield Pro page 1 below.

May want to put your brain in gear before you post a response.

Its worse for Vod services. Vod services are pretty similar to a ponzi scheme. IDK if vod services could even survive if companies stopped including digital copies given that they still need to service all the existing digital copies. They cant even raise prices to fix their problems because they still have all their existing commitments that just continue to increase.

If I just stop buying movies I will still have over 500 digital copies which is like a streaming service worth of content in and of itself and they need to maintain that service while I personally could contribute no further money to them.

I have been checking out and asking questions on the AVS side of things for a bit now. Seems to be a pretty good group on the MadVR thread.

I reflexively hit the mute button. The inane sales pitch aggravates me infinitely more than the lobotomizing visuals.

Erectile dysfunction ads in Dolby Atmos! A criminal waste of good speakers.

They have no scruples with ads. I had a cringeworthy moment at work when I was sitting with my client’s mother while waiting for her son to came downstairs to say bye to me (we always shake hands after every shift as a ritual) and in that couple of minutes, a vaginal dryness ad came on.
She was red faced, as was I. Relieved when it was finished!

There doesn’t seem to be a time and place these days.

Streaming does not promote the advancement of HT. It promotes entertainment. KISS.

Reed Hastings Explains Why Netflix Won’t Ever Sell Ads

Quote:
Seriously, folks, Netflix has no intention of monetizing with ads, ever.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings even referred to advertising as a form of exploitation on the company’s full year 2019 earnings call on Tuesday.

“We want to be the safe respite where you can explore, you can get stimulated, have fun and enjoy – and have none of the controversy around exploiting users with advertising,” Hastings said.
On the road for several days and the motels have TV's in the breakfast area. First ads we have saw in quite some time. What IQ level are these ads aimed at? Really bad weather last night and tried to get some info from The Weather Channel. They should name it The Ad Channel with a little weather info.

Years ago I asked Amir about MS offering STB software where the end user had one app for billing, recommendation and program selection. He said none was in the works but believed if one ever came to fruition (from anyone) they would make a bundle.

IMO, that ship sailed. Just don't believe all would come together for such a project at this stage of streaming. Streaming really needed the equivalent of the BDA or one similar.

Streaming is every company for themselves and to the victors go the spoils. Pure 100%, Grade A, American Capitalism.

I wouldn't put to much into governing bodies. How's the 8K Association doing?

IMO, UV members believed their was an advantage to CFF (Common File Format) and other initiatives. I thought at the time some of this would rub off on some streamers and I believe Netflix did support CCF.

Don't know, for once I will sit on the sidelines for awhile.

There is no doubt in my mind that if the FCC had not mandated ATSC 1.0 there would be many still watching SD TV in the US. Wish I had back some of the many hours I spent in the 8VSB vs COFDM debates.

Governing bodies with teeth can be a good thing. If all streamers just had a common way to sign into your account would help a lot. Aggravating when one provider makes you sign in with your email and PW while another sends you 6 digit number that you enter.

The first model of ATV4K remote didn't have a mute button! I thought they were going to keep it that way too because Apple sometimes likes some of it's mistakes.

Commercials for prescription drugs are the most annoying for me. Lower your A1C, Treat your moderate to severe crohns, Talk to your doctor about ....

And if you watch something on Tubi because it seems only available on Tubi there's only a handful of ads so you get the same ones on repeat like they were hit singles.

Every company for themselves yet they have to rely on leasing out content to other services to make money on their content many times.

The IQ levels that see a brash, cheesy ad and think, umm, I really need one of those!

Sounds like many of the free channels we have in the UK. It's often joked that these channels are really ad channels occasionally interrupted by programmes/films.
