Apparently, it would affect us due to the way tvs are distributed in Europe.

I will assume UK is part of the European division of the company the same way Canada falls under US for most companies but doesn't the UK use a different plug so don't TVs need to be manufactured or at the least boxed for the UK market?

I'm probably completely wrong here but I would have thought a TV set, say for example a Samsung made in China, would be exported directly to the UK from that country rather than coming in via the EU. Like I say mate, I'm not sure.

We have had goods being shipped in directly from China (and other Asian countries) in the past, but I guess it's possible that alternative shipping arrangements could have been made with the EU before Brexit - that's the part I'm not sure about.

I also bought a bunch of TV series on BD. Normally I do not buy series on TV, but I do love the Star Trek franchise.

I ordered these through 3rd party merchants, because they were much cheaper than buying them new directly from Amazon.

One thing I didn’t think about with the upcoming restrictions on tv energy use is how will it impact screen walls used in Hollywood/EU/Disney film and tv productions (CG backgrounds and sets in other words)

The CG backgrounds are added in post production. Nothing is actually filmed in front of a giant screen. A green screen isn't actually a screen.

No, I mean the LED walls that generate backgrounds in recent productions like Disney’s The Mandalorian. LED walls.

That would only be an issue if the restrictions were worldwide. The production company can set up an LED wall in a country where there aren't energy restrictions.

When a corporation is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a single production they will always find a way to get around any restrictions.

how things are shipped should not be that important. If TV manufacturer X puts a bunch of TVs in a container and ships them to big warehouse in France and then some are shipped to UK if those TVs are 8k or 4k or HD it should not make a difference from a shipping point of view. If the TVs used an iklligal substance (like mercury ...) that would be a different story. In this case it is just that they are not allowed to be sold in Europe if they need to much electricity isn SDR mode

Yeah, but streaming is a global thing now and a lot of films are being made just for streaming. Film studios are being built all over Europe. Heck, even in my home town of Sunderland in North East England.

It’s not click bait, it’s been confirmed by the EU commission. Their restrictions will be in place by March 2023. A big fuss has been kicked up in the tv industry.

The LED wall you mentioned costs over $100 million. It will never be used by any low budget production. A high budget production can set up the LED wall anywhere in the world and move the production there.

Many tv productions have big budgets as well though. Streamers have European bases and use films studios from the respective countries. This is true of England with our famous film studios being used by Netflix. The inability to use LED walls would Impact all those studios.
