How many times I watch a movie that I own is not really the point for me, anyway. The point is to have the best viewing and listening experience possible when I do choose to watch it.

I also really like knowing that the movie that I own on disc is not subject to any revisionist editing later; the version I bought yesterday is the one that I will own tomorrow.

I also do not need access to everything. I only need access to the titles that I choose to own.

Watched Pulp Fiction 4K disc last night and it was a awesome -- a definite "must buy."

As far as the whole Disney streaming/physical media thing goes. The MCU has worn thin on me now, so Disney+ is fine. I own 1 Disney disc and that's Rogue One, because it's a demo-worthy disc. The others, not so much from what I've read. They're either too dark or too low in volume levels. They're also priced slightly higher than the average, because it's Disney. I blind bought Lightyear on 4K disc a couple of weeks ago (have yet to receive it), because it was $9, so we'll see if it's a demo-disc once it arrives.

I am not a Star Wars junkie. Other than the original trilogy, the rest is pretty much disposable eye candy except for Rogue One; I actually liked it.

The MCU has grown tiresome, too. It very much seems to be a quantity over quality proposition.

Decades of use is BS, is it?

I own laserdiscs that are 30 years old.

I own DVDs that are 25 years-old.

I own blu-rays that are 15 years-old.

I can still watch them all. I will expire long before my discs will.
Agreed. Heck I still watch DVD from 20 years ago sometimes. I have a horror marathon in the last couple of weeks of October so that’s 16-18 Blu-rays at random every year.
Also, have Christmas discs we watch every year across the holiday.

In addition, I often just randomly stick a film on the HT when I feel the urge.

I also need to get through 200 unwatched discs!
I get a heck of a lot of use out of my collection.

Just to be clear: you don't care for most of what Disney makes so you're fine with paying $100 a year for Disney+? It sounds like just buying a few discs would be much cheaper.

I didn't say most. I said the MCU. There's plenty of other Disney properties and acquisitions that I like. I also have it bundled with HULU and ESPN for a low annual price. I definitely get my money's worth.

Okay, that makes more sense.

This whole debate reminds me of when Universal launched Peacock and heavily advertised that it included all of The Office (which was previously Netflix's most watched show). It makes me wonder how many people subscribe to Peacock (or previously subscribed to Netflix) month after month primarily to watch The Office instead of just buying the complete series (in either physical or digital form).

Well I am not going to wager on it will be released on BD or UHD BD but I do hope it comes to pass. Same for True Lies, at least I have it on D-Theater which is about 2 decades old now.

I'd gladly buy both of them but I've seen way too many reports that The Abyss and True Lies are coming to Blu-ray for over a decade that I don't believe any of them anymore. The same applies to Panic Room.

You really aren't up on streaming are you?

Most households have a core set of services: 1 or 2. And they also have 3 or 4 that they watch for a few months then cancel. Then they pick them up at a later date when new content stacks up.

Should we discuss all the AVODs that are free? Don't bother playing the "I don't want ads" card because AVODs are immensley popular. People will have anywhere from 3 to 5 and they cost nothing.

Thanks for that. I have the Blu-ray of Pulp Fiction but was a bit undecided whether or not to buy the 4K disc. This and Jackie Brown are my two favourite Tarantino movies.

Me too. For me The Abyss would be a no-brainer - a Day 1 purchase.....and I don't care how much it costs.

Jackie Brown is often under appreciated. I hope it gets a 4K disc release, too.

Yes, I agree with you. Even the very first UK (Region 2) DVD release of Jackie Brown back in the late 90's was bizarrely on a double-sided "flipper" disc, yet Pulp Fiction, whose DVD release was around the same time, was a single-sided dual-layer disc.

I'm probably going to get shot down for saying this, but I never really enjoyed Reservoir Dogs, despite this being a well-known early Tarantino movie.

I think you're safe.

I just dissed all but one of the Star Wars spinoffs and most of the MCU and I'm still standing. Of course, I didn't do so in their respective threads where my opinion would probably be far less tolerated.

I was getting a bit worried whether I did the right thing saying that, I must admit.

As for Star Wars, I have only ever seen the original trilogy - haven't seen any of the films that followed to be honest with you. I've always enjoyed Star Trek however - seen all the movies many times over and never tire of them. I adore those films.

You should always feel welcome to state your opinion, especially being the gentleman that you always are. If anyone has a problem with opinions that they dislike, the problem is theirs and not yours.

I have always preferred the Star Trek movies as well. I feel that the main characters are better developed and therefore that they and their exploits are far more interesting.

I am well aware that they are immensely popular. Many people obviously don't value their time.

If you think that doing something you don't want to do in order to get something else makes it free then everything is free. All you have to do is work and you'll get free money.

I've been trying to go through my hundreds of posters and ran across my full set of 8 Jackie Brown theatrical posters. One of my most prized poster sets. Great movie too. It grows in my esteem each time I watch it.

JK, though Reservoir Dogs often trades places with Pulp Fiction as my favorite Tarantino movie. But I can see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea so no vitriol from me. Everyone's tastes are their own. And to prove it, I will share that I love the Ben Affleck Daredevil movie. Let the hate fly!
