Each market has some titles that have been released on Blu-ray that aren't available in other markets (it's similar to Netflix offering different content between regions). |

I know it was just a play on words, but does anyone see the similarities in this example? Just like Fine Foods, Movies are all in the Eye of the Beholder. A nice Rare Bone-In Rib Eye or a Digital HD Movie viewed on the best equipment. Both require a taste for the best! Last edited by alchav21; 05-21-2016 at 03:10 AM. |

For anyone who thinks Theatres are disappearing, you gotta check out the 4DX experience coming to Cineplex. It has wind blowing in your face, the feel of water and snow, not to mention the seats that already move & shake. All in digital.
Now the day you can have the 4DX experience at home, will be just phucking awesome!!!! |

Physical copy blu-ray for me. Unless the Digital copy would be 20GB per movie, but that is not the case for Itunes Netflix Amazon, is it? Let's not talk about BT full blu-ray download.
So what is there to compare really? Yes I'm implying that less file size means more inferior picture, whether or not one can see the difference will depend. Last edited by audiobean; 05-20-2016 at 04:46 PM. |

When you start accumulating at 200+ blu-rays, that's going to take up so much shelf space unless you butcher your blu-ray collection, lower resale value drastically in the process, by storing them in CD binders and throw out or recycle the jewel cases, if you want to keep all the blu-rays. It will also make it harder to search for a specific movie once you have them all stored in binders, even more so if they are stored in multiple binders. Some people don't have big shelves or rooms dedicated to storing physical media. With digital you can have over 1000 movies in your account, and not take up any shelf space.

I just went out and bought a big plastic tub and a couple of large CD binders. I don't mind flipping through to find a movie. All the cases get put away in the tub and the discs go into my binders. Store them alphabetically. Not too tough to find stuff that way.
I would gladly move to digital downloads if there was one DRM system that worked everywhere, if the quality was the same, and if the price were competitive. Right now those things don't exist in digital downloads. |

I'm very curious to see how digital develops over the years, and I'm also hopeful that studios really push for UHD Blu-ray later this year. It needs all the help it can get, despite its clear superiority over digital and standard Blu-ray.
It's nice to have this ongoing debate. Digital has been gaining momentum due to its convenience-factor. Not just the convenience of being able to watch it the moment you buy it online, but also being able to watch it with the click of a button anytime, even on the go. It also doesn't have FBI warnings at the beginning of the disc/movie. Physical media (BD and UHD BD) is 99.9% of the time superior to digital (HD/UHD) in terms of pictures/sound quality and isn't reliant on internet, or the continued presence of digital service providers like iTunes, Amazon or Vudu. The debate mostly comes down to preference for most people. For some, it's much more serious than that. Digital represents a threat to physical media. It always has. Yet, they've already co-existed for a bit and will likely continue to do so. |
