Regards,
Of course it's about money. But I think even studios see the writing on the wall. From here on out there will be no mainstream formats, some would even argue that blu-ray never made the mainstream (but that's total BS).

I'm sure there will be 8K, but I'm kind of wondering how they would propose a format for it within the next 10 years - and by then I doubt there will be *ANY* push to conceive a new physical format.

Agree.

My prediction,

No physical media in the future (10 to 15 years). Everything will be data, stream and download with virtual servers at a price for consumers.

Like Brightstar points out we also reap the benefits, if that was not the case people would not upgrade.
I was gonna make a note it is also about the money & then edited this picture out.

105" 21:9 OLED UHD

Also that I want to buy it if it comes with that remote.

Are you made of cash??? Even if an 8K display was available right now, I sure couldn't afford it, and neither could most of the people on this forum.

My question is, why are you happy with 8K? If you want the best possible system that's available currently, then shouldn't you be installing a personal IMAX in the basement? IMAX resolution is around 15K, nearly double that pitiful, hopelessly outdated 8K...

Pointless.
Only reason why I'm upgrading to 4K is because I want a bigger screen size than I have now (55") and I may as well get 4K if I'm upgrading, right? After this though...I plan on keeping the TV I upgrade to until it's broke. I love my current HDTV but I should have gone a bit bigger I'm realizing.

My opinion is that more resolution is always better. I said it in another thread, molecular resolution or bust.

There will come a day when each individual molecule in the panel can be individually modulated to release a photon of an exact wavelength.

I won't be truly satisfied until I can hand a tv showing an image of the Mona Lisa next to the real deal and it's impossible for even the keenest eye to tell them apart from any distance, no matter how long they look at it.

I'll settle for being able to go right up to the screen and unable to see the pixels without a magnifying glass.

I see we now already have two things in common, an affinity for advanced discussion about dem eyes and more primal instincts regarding remotes. I married of one dem *remotes*….now going on over 30 years of happiness.

She be the better half…..the circuit board and batteries, I be just the dang buttons. But the thing has worked for a long time with no signs of failure.

In the future I'd rather have an 8K Oculus Rift with 120fps and 600Hz with my own cinema inside. No need for that redundant, clunky TV.

Why would you need an oculus rift when you could have a holosuite or holodeck?

I think that while the OP might be ready for 8K, I do not think that many consumers are ready for 8K, let alone 4K, both in terms on actual televisions or screens and content. There has to be enough market saturation for the likes of WB and Sony and the rest of them to be willing to invest in 8K. It makes sense why television makers like Samsung are trying to push 4K and maybe even 8K, but if not enough consumers are biting, then it won't matter how much the television makers will want people to upgrade. They will have to wait and build up, like they did with HDTVs and like they are trying to do with 4K TVs. Enough people buy the 4K TVs, then the big movie distributors and television distributors will sell product to those consumers with 4K TVs, then more consumers will buy 4K TVs, and the cycle goes on.

The 8k showing the London Olympics wasn't good enough with the framerate. Apparently HDMI will only go up to 60fps so a new interface is needed to make 8k watchable. The vast majority leave their supermarket brand tv on dynamic anyway so I can't see either being a big seller.

As for the films themselves, I wonder what Predator would look like in 8k.

IMO I don't think a 21:9 105" screen is as big as most people think.

I'd compare the dimensions close to a 75 - 80 inch 1.78:1 in height. Longer width, but smooooth curves.

I think one of 8Ks biggest hurdles is content. Specifically not that much of it, or to be more precise not enough to justify a rollout.

There has been quite a lot of stuff shown at the moment in HD that is sourced on 4K to 6K (the BBC and Sky for example are capturing natural history on Red Epics). Speaking of which, Red (always at the forefront in the resolution stakes) is only just about to release a 8K option later this summer. It will take a good number of years to generate a critical mass of 8K content.

I haven't even mentioned bandwidth yet!!!

Why would I be interested in 8K when 4K dont interest me? 1080p HD is good enough for me thank you very much.
