About damn time, FUNi should have done this years ago when they were repeatedly changing cases for their other complete sets. It's crazy how they have kept those digipaks in print for so long while their shorter series were repackaged multiple times with and without their old re-release branding that kept changing every few years.

I guess the question now is what they plan to do for original Dragon Ball and also One Piece since they'll want to re-author the latter's old DVDs too.

Nothing says Valentine's Day like Dragon Ball GT. I guess the opening theme is kind of romantic, you know just not as romantic as the closing theme to Dragon Ball

I would love it if they dropped the track with the English dub music, but as others have said it's likely just the original discs with some minor tweaks. I'll be interested to see if Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z get the same treatment.

Let’s hope Dragon Ball GT on DVD from Crunchyroll has episode previews too.

I don't really see the appeal here
*the ugly green/yellow case just like the previous release
*it's a DVD just like the previous release
*it's still GT

I guess the appeal is that it's one case? GT isn't even worth that price.

I'll be very surprised if this happens for Z's DVDs. A repackage of the Z BDs sounds more likely than both.

Highly doubtful they will if the Dragon Ball Super steelbook box is any indication.

The Dragon Ball Super steelbook discs have English text only. The discs are 1:1 with the old discs aside from the replaced startup warnings/logo and removed trailers. The menus are identical to the old 13 episode sets.

Just checked. [Disc credits] looks very consistent with the rest of the disc, but Blu-ray authoring is credited to Crunchyroll, LLC.

FUNimation is still credited on the show's actual credits and bonus features.
I expect the same here with maybe slightly updated menus given the Japanese GT logo is being used for the cover now.

Now if only Funimation was willing to do SD Blu-Rays, would be the perfect release. (outside of using Dragonboxes as source)

This is obviously just a repress for anyone that hasn’t picked up the previous releases. Doubt it will be any different except the opening logo/warnings/previews being swapped or removed just like the DB Super steelbooks. I would ignore the specs on the preview since Crunchyroll’s online listing mentions the set being 4:3, and the third “US broadcast 2.0” track being included.

I have a feeling Crunchyroll will do the same for DBZ, even on DVD, since it’s DBZ.

Some miscommunication here unless I'm the one overthinking this.

The Dragon Ball Super SteelBook Blu-rays do have episode previews but NOT the previews (AKA trailers) for other anime series that Funimation releases would normally have.

When Geoff said Super had no previews hopefully nobody thought he meant the discs were reauthored to remove the episode previews (resulting in a shorter running time)

The GT discussion unless I'm wrong is inquiring if this GT re-release will have the episode previews as prior DVD releases did not?

Dragonball Super is a series you never have to wonder about if the Previews to the Next Episode are included or not. It’s just ones like the original DBZ and GT.

But no DVD reissue of the more profitable Dragon Ball with Crunchyroll. Think they have different plans for Dragon Ball? Or who knows, maybe they have plenty of stock of Dragon Ball DVDs already.

Dragon Ball on Blu-ray is doubtful. Most we can expect in the near future is DVD case re-releases with the Crunchyroll branding.

With Super, it's more that they left everything in the steelbook discs the same as the part sets except for the removed and replaced FUNimation mentions (video logo, trailers and disc staff credits).

There's also what they're doing with Yu Yu Hakusho because the disc count in the upcoming "complete" set is the exact same as the 2019-2020 steelbooks (which had 12 discs of the ported 2011 releases + 4 bonus discs that were exclusive to those steelbooks) but with one new disc for the 2018 OVA. There's a good chance they did the same as with Super on those discs as well (which hopefully means they updated the subtitle font to what they currently use).

The point with GT is the new set is likely to be the same as the old 2008-2009 DVDs except with the same small updates as with Super (along with possibly new menus with Toei's GT logo replacing FUNi's) so the next episode previews, which they DO have as they were in the original GT singles, will not be included here.

I wonder if they’ll change the logo back in the opening. FUNi’s green bricks replaced it with their logo. It’s possible they won’t though; the Super steelbooks didn’t touch any of the actual video content, including the FUNimation mentions in the credits.

Yea, I just noticed they used the original GT logo on this new pack. I dont know if they'd go back and change the opening or if (and this would be funny) someone just grabbed the wrong graphic when making the cover lol

Also its 10 disc, and still says "digitally remastered" so I think we know what that means lol

Eh not so sure about this one. If they're just going to do DB on DVD with CR branding, wouldn't they have done that release before GT? I imagine that even in the states, DB is more popular than GT

Nice. They used the original GT logo, not the crappy metallic logo FUNi came up with.

Edit: And they didn't include "Digitally Remastered" on the front cover, which to be honest, it's actually inferior to the original singles.

They're basically repeating what Funimation did with the previous bricks.

Z's sets were released between February 2007 and May 2009.
GT's sets were released in December 2008 and February 2009.
DB's sets were released between September 2009 and July 2010.

Also despite what some fans want to think, GT is a seller here.

FUNimation claims they're going green but yet, they wasted thousands of DVDs by putting DBGT on them. :/
So you're telling me that #DBGT, which takes 2 of @Amazon's top 50 anime spots 4 years after release, is a waste of DVDs?

At my local Wal-Mart, The GT box set is the only Dragon Ball DVD they sell besides the Broly Bluray. Like, they consistently restock that box set, but not any of the Super blurays or the new DBZ steelbooks. It seems so be a bizarrely consistent seller.

My thoughts exactly. The goal here seems to be to scrub the FUNimation branding from all current releases in their home video catalogue. I doubt we'll see any alterations beyond that.

Frustrating though it is, I have a feeling that if/when Kai - The Final Chapters gets re-issued the audio problem on the dub track will still be present.

Actually, GT has always been much bigger than DB in the US. I remember someone from FUNimation saying in one of their ANNCast interviews that it always sold about as much as DBZ, and their complete series DVD boxset was still one of their top sellers years after it came out. The original DB has always been far more niche here. I haven't seen it on Wal-Mart or Target shelves in almost a decade, unlike GT, which I still see. I rarely see DB even referenced much online outside the first couple arcs. It seems to be mostly popular with the hardcore Dragon Ball/Toriyama fans.

EDIT: Even now, DBGT is #9 in anime physical media on Amazon (technically #17, but those other slots aren't anime). None of the DB seasons make the top 100, although a couple of them are OOS.
