eh big deal, the coding is a trivial thing, terribly little cost at the end of the day

then there's things like subtitles and foreign language dubs,
already all created for the blu-ray and streaming 4k

authoring the actual ISO file for the disc, etc etc.

But the main thing really is the sales they can realistically expect given the target audience - as I said, women in general are just more likely to settle for a DVD or BD. I mean, look at how much of a clear-cut sausage-fest this forum is. That's pretty indicative of the demographics involved right there. Collecting large amounts of physical media is a boy's game, always has been.
true, but not like women still couldn't see a difference or that they'd be 100% of the audience

And even then, a lot of HD enthusiasts would look at a movie that's clearly dialogue-focused without a bunch of explosions/CGI/special effects and think, is this one really worth shelling out the extra 10 bucks for 4K?
and yet the titles I mention mostly look more impressive than any of those blast 'em titles, a few them look vastly more impressive, would literally be all-time reference UHD demo discs

I'd love some women's group to take notice that 'women's' titles get the shaft and create some big PC stink about it and get us UHD releases.

One of my favs but sadly a UK Import Paddington 2 is a stunner of a looking disc and a charming as hell movie for everyone (wish they would release the first one in 4K) Hopefully when the 3rd movie eventually comes out that I won’t need to import that one, but will if I have too.

Oh I didn’t know you were the mod for this post? Truth be told there’s hardly any comedy or romance or drama in 4K. I can still give the man some recommendations.

actually there is even yet less to it than I had even said, since now it turns out Little Women 2019 will get a Sony UHD release in Germany but not in the US. So literally they have every single step done, every last one, 100% zero cost.

And yet a finished disc they will release SOLELY in Germany and not even try to get any US sales at all. When the disc is already fully made in every single way.

So I mean they can afford to release a title to a small market with a title based on a classic American book in a foreign country somehow and yet people say oooh but it's too costly for studios to release all titles in UHD in the US. not so much.

But anyway this adds a title to the OP's wishlist.
In June, you can order Little Women 2019 from Germany in UHD format.
Will cost a good bit more than if Sony had 'dared' to bother to release the same disc in the US as well.

In these genres some faves of mine (in terms of PQ) are:

Apocalypse Now**
The Big Lebowski
Casino
The Greatest Showman**
Leon: The Professional
Phantom Thread**
The Revenant**
Sully**
Unforgiven
The Wizard of Oz**

Marked what in my opinion was the best PQ with a **.

All the BBC docs are stunningly beautiful.

I know it's an action movie, but it's not a big effects movie, and no one has mentioned it, so: Die Hard.

EDIT: You didn't mention horror in either the yes or no column, so add: The Shining

If she likes horror I’d recommend Us, A Quiet Place & Hereditary.

Alright got myself Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, The Greatest Showman, Sully, Smurfs 2, Charlie's Angel (2000), and Gemini Man. I already have Phantom Thread.

But we only managed to watch Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in the weekend, not a bad film at all, enjoyed it. The colors are so strong. But I didn't ask my wife about the picture quality, just to see if she'll say anything. She did not! Very hard to impress her with my setup, but I hope she would at least notice the picture quality now lol.

I did sample Gemini Man, that was an amazing jaw-dropping amazing picture. Will try to talk her into watching that. After that it will be Sully, it has the most realistic colors from what I've sampled.
