Default Hidden gems that you have acquired.

I was able to find Cadence, Toy soilders, Mi vida loca, and Disorderlies on dvd recently ( through the help of the internet ) to bad there are no proper Blu ray releases for them yet.

What's the definition of "hidden gem" in the context of this conversation?

Every Drafthouse film I've bought has been a blind buy, and they've all been spectacular beyond reason.

My take is that he/she refers them as "hidden gems" to a newly discovered movie

What i ment by hidden gem is a unreleased or poor distribution of a film. That kind of movie that you have to search or go out of your way for. As with Cadence and toy soilders they never pressed a dvd so you would go through extreme measures to acquire one, my example is with both those movies i paid more in international shipping then the movies costed

Or you could also include what he said because i am a blind buyer as well so its nice to know which ones turn out to be turds and which ones are gems. I just did a blind buy with "starry eyes" and "found."Which were both good movies not gems per say but they were a solid buy.

I'm assuming you're not in the US because Toy Soldiers is available on Amazon, although it's full frame. I've been patiently awaiting a proper release of this film for years.

Olive wanted to do a Blu-ray of Cadence (Paramount owns it) but the materials were damaged and Paramount didn't want to pay for a new master.

don't recall anything cinematically, musically is another story, with Hard Drives and storage spaces people are offloading their music, so I have found rare gems for my collection in garage sales etc.

I tend to find cinematic gems on Rialto Channel, a little way outside of the topic I guess. movies I ordinarily wouldn't open a wallet for.

The Company of Wolves

1984 film directed by Neil Jordan

Had to buy it off eBay. Thank goodness the Blu was region free. It really surprised me. Beautiful cinematography and production design. Plays out like a dream. Of course that is intentional.

That is a nice find, the one I'm having trouble with now is "The walking dead " from 1995. I remember watching it at the show twice but never thought about it till last night and when i started searching i found out not only did it not get a Blu-ray release it did not even get a dvd release!!! Which i don't mind cause i still collect VHS so it look's like i will be ordering it that way and coverting it to dvd for now. I know that movie did not get reviewed well but i was 15 when i saw it so i have to have it for my childhood collection.

I had never seen The Company of Wolves before. I love fantasy and fairy tales and saw this movie crop up on a few cult lists. $19.99 wasn't bad. I hope you may find that movie on Blu someday. Maybe if Shout! Factory picks it up.

This topic reminded me of my DVD of the Legend of 1900, what a great lesser known film. There has only been a region B Italian BD release previously. I just found a Korean region A release on YESASIA and ordered it right away. I also tried DDDHouse which typically has lower prices but the site gets wonky sometimes.
