Good news? Um, that article's from January. The BDA have been making the same noises about 4K BD for some time now; "we'll have this, we'll have that" blah blah. Wake me up when some proper information (specs, launch date etc) is released.

Well, here we are now 6 months from that article and still nada...although 4K/UHD resolution is usually the most talked about, some of the observations of 4K content vs reference quality 1080p Bluray upscaled on the same 4K display isn't all that much better, so it seems the real improvement that will get every ones attention is when we get higher bit depth and some expanded color schemes, and that seems to be where everyone is dicking around. Probably this would move along much faster if 4K/UHD were planned as the new broadcast standard but that ain't happening in the near future.

I just did, and I saw an opinion piece where a writer said they felt it "could" not happen.

This isn't what you're referring to, is it?

I just listened to a Youtube video on a presentation by an engineer (and patent inventor) in April that says it is going to happen.

Search word ‘cheese’ – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...se#post9103290

The question is, what form (specs) will it support....something which we've already been discussing in detail for months on previous pages here - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...89830&page=178

Sadly, every month that passes without an official (and I mean an official official) announcement, the probability of a 4K disc format being released plummets.
