I really want the 4:3 version of the cropped episodes (at least). Without the zoom, we would see less of this kind of "ugly-things".

I don't think 4:3 is the only option for the episodes that are mostly cropped, seeing scenes in the opening credits and "previously on" segments that are opened up that aren't in the actual episode gives me hope that they can be 16:9 without cropping.

By the way, that Oompa Loompa orange shot of Angel's game face is the one I complained about looking like they didn't put DNR on exactly that one shot and it looked bizarre amongst all the other tinted, lightened and DNR'd shots. It's oversharpened to the point where the prosthetic is showing its seam (quite badly around the nose) and his nose is shinier than the matte makeup on the latex prosthetic.
If you look at the exact same shot on the DVD, there is no difference in coloration there between the fade-from-commercial game face, followed by a shot of Buffy and then the shot where Angel's face morphs back. This is a screw-up. And it bears repeating... They actually deleted width (not just height) from the original 4:3 image in the creation of the 16:9 version here (they'd done it to both sides of the frame also in The Harvest's bouncer slow-mo shot). They hacked off Angel's arm (while adding more to the other side of the fridge's ice/water dispenser), 1½ cookie jars (making what was not a close-up into one--and cutting Angel's upper face out of shot) and all the space (nearly ¼!) to the left side of her hair in another shot to create yet another extreme close-up of Buffy that chops Angel out of frame. Whoever did the cropping (and the rest of 1x01-1x07) just didn't give a crap and it had nothing to do with intrusions, because they weren't even using the whole width from the 4:3 version. I also lament the loss of Darla's iconic shot of her spreading her plaid skirt. It's been eliminated entirely from frame. Fanvidders, even the ones who crop to 16:9 themselves, *always* get the shot of that skirt when they use it. That shot is probably the most famous shot of Darla drawing attention to her Catholic schoolgirl look. More proof that the editor just didn't give a crap about what was happening in the images on screen. If fanvidders can get the entire skirt in, then so could that guy who actually has more image to work with. Also, the pink tint has turned her navy blue sweater and plaid skirt almost into black. ![]() ![]() Last edited by NileQT87; 09-14-2014 at 08:03 PM. |

But I think they have created a 16:9 version and a 4:3 version. Will they bother to make a second one in 16:9 ? I'm not sure at all :/. Quote:

So... The Buffy's screenshot is sublime. This is one of the few screenshots that's good. Without compression, it must have a lot of potential. Colors when Xander is shirtless is better than on the SD version of Pivot. I believe. Newspapers are a great way to see color problems. This purple outline is... Awful. And has nothing to do there. I really don't understand why we have so much pink ! This can not come from the original negatives ? The screen capture of Buffy Vamp' is not bad at all. Some special effects really need to be redone. I hope they will be redone for the Blu-Ray release. Because it is really bad... I just watched the first two parts of the miniseries "Mildred Pierce" (with Kate Winslet) filmed in 16mm. I thought it was really beautiful. I know there are many years of difference (and financial resources) but... Da*n ! |

Watching the HD files on my 50 inch TV is actually pretty amazing. Yes, there is much wrong with this transfer/remaster, but from a distance on a big TV - it's a lot more watchable than the DVD.

![]() Going through "Witch" now, here are my first comparisons. Note that I'm only posting captures for scenes that are re-framed/opened up in the PIVOT episodes.
