Default Intermittent But Consistent Audio Dropouts

Just watched Burn After Reading on Blu-ray, everything was fine.

Started watching an MP4 file through my Oppo over the network, and I'm getting audio dropouts every second or two. Seems to always be in the same place in the file, rather than entirely random.

First thing I did was check the file on my PC. All fine there.

Second thing, run a different HDMI cable from the Oppo straight to my TV, and use the TV's speakers. All fine there too.

Third thing, using that same HDMI connection try it through the AVR via the optical out from the TV. All fine there as well.

So I've ruled out the file, the network, the player, the TV, and the cable as issues.

Therefore the AVR is the problem.

However, like I said I made it all the way through Burn After Reading just fine. Nothing played up at all the entire hour and a half. Went straight into watching this file and it's not working.

It's not loud, it's just a guy reading out a list of names. Peaks at -11.2 according to Audacity/Audition, and I'm watching it with the volume around -30 on the AVR.

I had a source video, from which I created three different-resolution .264 files and one .ac3 file.

I muxed each of the .264 files with the .ac3 file to create three .mp4 files.

They all play back just fine on PC, and through the TV's speakers, but when the audio goes through the receiver the sound dropouts occur. They occur in the same place every time, and on the same place in each .mp4 files. They play identically.

Watching cable and Blu-rays is just fine. No issues.
