the US release certainly won't be any better, and someone just posted that it works on a region a player.
EDIT: doesn't seem to be in stock at the moment.
I bought it from Amazon.de
With shipping mine came to $17. There is of course, the 2 weeks for it to get here.

I've made some changes to my movie. See if you can figure out most of it. Basically, I've combined my dvd set with the blu, while changing the case for a more sophisticated, classy look.

Just ordered this through CDJapan. $20 plus delivery, but price was never a concern.

Not sure about the other releases, but this has TrueHD and uncompressed 5.1 PCM.

I am now hoping that no cuts have been applied! This has been one of my favourite movies for years (ever since first seeing it), but am only just upgrading from my German HD-DVD as I can now enjoy lossless audio!

Are you guys sure this works on reg.1? I'm looking at it on Amazon and the editorial review says: German only Blu-Ray, Region All pressing. Though when I look through the sellers, they all say Region Code 2/B.

Thank you rdodolak, I saw this a while back and liked it. It will be nice to have in my collection. I hear the book is really good as well.

For those who might be interested in the Japan release, I can confirm that it is actually presented in 2.35:1. The listing, and this site, shows it as 16:9, which might be technically correct, however I found the info to be misleading. Rest assured, the film is presented in the proper ration.

The lossless 5.1 LPCM track was amazing... with the score never sounding so good!

Can't really comment on the possibility of censorship. I seemed to remember a little more muff in it, but this release had no naked bodies until the finale. I hope to check my former HD-DVD release for comparison soon.

Pretty sure this was region-all too. My player was locked to region A at the time ofplaying.

*I misread, until the finale, there should be a lot of nudity before that though, the girl in the flower tank, a lot of his victims, can you confirm. The Japan version seems the way to go if it is intact.

i really want to pick this up from Japan, but if there is no nudity in the finale then the film has been heavily censored.

Can we confirm this.

Is the German Release OK?

I would love to have those tracks with subtitles on a US release.

So no one else has the Japanese Blu to confirm the cut of the film is uncensored?

Gimme some time Indy... I will endeavour to get a comparison done over the weekend to confirm. Note that there IS a little nudity in the finale on this version, but I certainly remember more nudity in the version I had seen previously (and repeatedly).

Thank you sir. I feel silly this conversation is centered around nudity, we sound a bit off, just want the film as is intended.

Thanks in advance.

Censorship is censorship, and is not really welcome regardless of the 'offending' material.

That said, I have had a quick comparison between my Japanese Blu-ray and a DVD rip I grabbed off the net, and I am both surprised and happy to report that the versions are identical. Which would mean that my memories of the nudity contained in the previous versions I had seen were overly exhaggerated, with a lot of T-and-A, but little else until the finale where a few complete naked bodies were visible amongst the crowd. I checked the individual murder scenes on both versions and neither contained any pubic nudity.

Exactly what this means I am not sure, but would like to compare it against the German BD before I give it the all-clear!

Well, just checked my German HD-DVD (Das Parfum) and I can confirm that the Japanese version is identical to both this and the DVD rip I checked earlier.

Which ultimately makes this Japanese version the one to go for, as it has a pretty good image (4/5 IMO) with lossless PCM 5.1 and Dolby TrueHD 5.1.

Its amazing how the memory can play tricks... I would have sworn that this film included more actual bush, but after comparing three different releases over four specific scenes, it is really only the finale where anything is actually visible. Again, I acknowledge there's a fair amount of nudity (all present in the Japanese version), it is mostly T and A, with bush only making an appearance near the end. And while I might seem like some horny nerd, I am just trying to be descriptive... anyone who watches this film in the hope of some kinky flesh will be sorely disappointed!

I know this seems silly, but did you compare it to the US release?
