Default Sony Blu-ray player saying DVD is "unsupported color"/won't play the DVD?

I just tried playing a DVD (region free) on my Sony BluRay player and when I inserted the disc it read "Unable to play this disc. Unsupported color system". Then on the home screen there is a white question mark on the disc icon. If selected it says "unable to play disc". I tried putting it in my Macbook Pro, worked perfectly. Virtually no scratches or marks.

Is there any work around in the settings or something simple? Or is it a lost cause and the DVD is simply unplayable on it.

What DVD is this (The disc itself all-region) or is the player region-free?

Its a music documentary, and it IS a British series but I only bought a damn copy because my friend did and their's plays fine! I'll just have to suck it up and watch it on the computer if it turns out to be a region thing.

Sounds like it might be a PAL disc. Which would mean that, even though it's region free, it's not an NTSC encode, and thus not playable on certain systems.

Disappointing but looks to be the case when I look it up. Thanks!

That was one of my thoughts too - funny the message would come up so cryptic like that about color.

Hopefully you can find a way to enjoy it

***tylerc904*** Out of genuine serious interest what is the title of the disc please? Here in Europe one region DVD players are as common as trustworthy politicians

Exposing myself as the pop music lover I truly am, it is Girls Aloud: Off The Record from 2006.

tylerc904 Sadly not a title that shall be looking for space on my shelf any time soon.

While I wouldn't encourage doing more than one copy for your self.
Do you know any one that dose DVD creation at home?
Although I don't do it that often, my recollection is that changing the color system from the original is quite easy to do.

I have the same issue too. I am using Titanium toast on a Macbook Pro In the past I have had no issues burning discs when selecting the "Write to NTSC" option, but, in the past month, I keep getting the Unsupported Color System error message when I play in it the DVD player. The Burner is -R, as are my blank discs. I have tried a variety of brands, but to no avail. What's the issue?

Have any of you tried VLC media player?
It is offered on most operating systems.
It ignores the DVD region.
Video cards commonly handle most color systems

I use VLC to play PAL discs. It seems to be the best option.
