Bob Bergen is also my favorite English Lupin, and I wish the Part 2 dub was union so he could’ve reprised the role like they originally wanted. He had a nice balance of “silly” and natural. Tony’s alright, but I think he goes too far into the “silly” side, but apparently Monkey Punch loved his portrayal, so what do I know?

I watched it yesterday afternoon. It was your typical Lupin adventure, but it still felt like an odd composite affair, especially with the musical elements being a bit different and the animation being that stiff Archer-style digital stuff. I guess it's "The Future", because it's easier and quicker to use, but I don't think it's half as good as the style of the regular digi-paint Lupin.

Just four TV specials left:
Seven Days Rhapsody, Sweet Lost Night ~Magic Lamp's Nightmare Premonition, Record of Observations of the East - Another Page and Princess of the Breeze - Hidden City in the Sky. So Lupin, barring the new specials/movies/series, will be wrapped up probably late 2024 or early 25? |

They've upgraded some. I assume they would like to do them all on blu if they can.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong but these are my predictions for Blu-ray upgrades in the future:
Pilot Films = New Dub Fuma Conspiracy = Re-dubbed Green vs Red = New Dub Lupin Family Lineup = New Dub Hemingway Papers = New Dub Napoleon's Dictionary = New Dub From Siberia with Love = New Dub Alcatraz Connection = New Dub Operation Return the Treasure = Sub-only Seven Days Rhapsody = Sub-only Sweet Lost Night = Sub-only Another Page = New Dub Princess of the Breeze = New Dub Italian Game = New Dub Pilot Films getting dubbed would pair well together with Part I (which uses some clips from it) This is of course assuming M&E tracks exist and that the Master File collection can be licensed outside of Japan. Lupin Family Lineup is also part of the Master File collection and isn't long in length for dubbing cost reasons. Fuma Conspiracy should have a re-dub. The Funimation dubs were keep in-tact even with mispronunciations or getting first & last names mixed up but the dubs for those TV specials were still serviceable. AnimEigo's dub with Rupan just doesn't work anymore and the English voice acting was below dubbing standards of that time. Green vs Red should get a dub. Was the winner of that Discotek Twitter poll and likely the only good opportunity to cast multiple English Lupin voice actors. I won't be surprised if Hemingway Papers, Napoleon's Dictionary and From Siberia with Love end up being sub-only but I think there's a good case to dub them. They fill in the gaps between Bye Bye Lady Liberty (which was dubbed) and the batch of Funimation TV specials. Part I (likely thanks to Miyazaki's association) is probably one of the better selling Lupin titles. I think a lot of those same collectors would appreciate more of the vintage character designs and animation. Operation Return the Treasure, Seven Days Rhapsody and Sweet Lost Night are part of the treading water era. Won't complain if they get dubbed but because Swallowtail Tattoo and Angel Tactics are sub-only, probably a safe bet that they will be sub-only also. Alcatraz Connection however like Episode 0: First Contact is one of the highlights of the digital animation Lupin III era and should have a dub. Another Page and Princess of the Breeze are part of the reboot era (Blood Seal of the Eternal Mermaid onward) and so far all other TV specials have been dubbed Italian Game despite having some Part IV compilation footage (so audio can be reused) does have some new things added and Part IV is one of the most popular portions of the franchise Last edited by Jackson_H; 02-01-2023 at 03:42 AM. |

I doubt they’d pay to redub Fuma Conspiracy if it already has a usable dub. They didn’t redub Arcadia of My Youth, despite being a classic Leijiverse film, and that dub was even worse. Won’t complain if I’m wrong though.

The Pilot Films were removed from Discotek's DVD re-release of Part I in 2014 and were similarly excluded from the recent Blu-ray release of Part I. I'm not sure these will even be seen again, let alone dubbed. It would be nice to be proven wrong, though.
The three Dezaki specials will probably receive Blu-ray upgrades at some point, although I'm less certain that any of these will be dubbed. I wouldn't completely rule it out, since the preference seems to be that native-HD titles are given serious consideration for retroactive dubs. That would potentially leave the three remaining Dezaki TV specials as well as anything from 2012 onwards, as possible dub candidates. I've said elsewhere that I don't think any of the SD specials from 2001 to 2010 will ever receive English dubs, Episode 0 notwithstanding. Again, it would be nice to be wrong. Lupin Family Lineup would be a neat inclusion on a future release, assuming it's available for licensing. I'm not sure that this been released officially anywhere outside of Japan - not even in Italy. The Lupin Master File release that included Lineup also included the Lupin the 8th pilot episode with a voiceless but fully-completed M&E soundtrack. Completing that might make for an interesting extra one day. It seems to be little-known, but an English-language soundtrack was apparently recorded for the Lupin the 8th pilot (or Arsene & Co. as its intended English-language title was going to be) back in 1982. This book on the early history of DiC Audiovisuel relates that producer Bernard Deyriès specifically flew out to the US to record the English soundtrack for the Arsene pilot. That soundtrack may never have been mixed due to the early cancelation of the project, or, if it was completed, TMS never had access to it. There's no further detail on it, unfortunately. An English-language dub of the Ulysses 31 pilot was unearthed last year which provides some hints as to who may have been involved in the Lupin the 8th/Arsene dub, namely voice actors John Stephenson, Mona Marshall and Frank Welker. No idea what roles they might have played, but those three actors were also in the pilot dubs for Ulysses 31 and Inspector Gadget, produced either side of the Lupin the 8th/Arsene & Co pilot. |
