I'm taking my sweet time with this game and am enjoying it immensely. I've barely done anything of significance but I really don't feel the need to. My only complaint is that I find myself fighting with the controls a lot. I keep waiting for everything to feel automatic but it hasn't happened yet, and I'm starting to wonder if it ever will.

This game is so addicting cant stop playing it. Only have done 2 of the temples. Just taking my time exploring this dense world. Whenever I'm at work, I'm just thinking about playing lol.

This game swings wildly from "I hate this and the controls are poor" when stuff doesn't go right to "this sense of wonder sure is missing from gaming these days" in the times when I'm not in combat and doing other stuff.

One day some developer will have controls for an open world adventure/exploration game that dyne will like
![]() ________ I believe I am now "finished" with the game. All shrines, all lightroots, main story, all side adventures that have story to them and the majority of the armor sets collected (and then sold for ones I know I'll never use ![]() [Show spoiler] , all of the [Show spoiler] , etc. etc. I decided that I wasn't going to go for completing all the more basic side quests as I just didn't really care about finishing THAT many; I did do a huge chunk of them. There are 230 quests between Side Adventures, Shrine Quests and Side Quests and I have completed something like 140-150. I'm at 135 hours of play time to complete all of that. It was a tough decision but I decided to hold off on playing this until Nintendo launches new hardware. I know there's no guarantee that Nintendo will launch a "Switch 2" with a TotK specific sku or even a performance patch. But I'm willing to at least wait and see.

Pretty much how I've felt. Combat is a chore but I adore everything else about the gameplay. The story is also a waste of time but that was to be expected. But overall I just can't get enough of exploring the world and messing around with the various systems.

More than anything else, I really am pleasantly surprised at how seamless this game runs and how great it looks on the Switch. It's pretty damn impressive what they accomplished on a 6 year old console, which had really started to show its age. I often knock Nintendo for the low number of first party games they put out on the Switch, but games like Tears of the Kingdom really do show that quality is more important than quantity.
That being said, I definitely want Nintendo to re-release Tears of the Kingdom on their next console in 2024. I'd love the upgraded visuals and gameplay with more horsepower, and I'd be shocked if this game doesn't hit their next console either at launch or shortly thereafter. |

As for your other comment, look I heard similar things from people regarding BOTW. However when I played it I got bored with it after about 15 hours. So while Im optimistic that TotK is better, Im not drinking the kool aid just yet. Last edited by Steelmaker; 06-04-2023 at 12:28 AM. |

TOTK makes BOTW feel like it was a tech demo.

I’m about 80 hours in. Have 1 dungeon and 35 shrines left and honesty I’ve hit a wall. I am kind of over it at this point. The extreme high has worn off for me. I think I’m gonna stop and play Jedi survivor then come back and finish this. I just need a break I think. Finding all the shrines has become tedious and I have so many side quests and I’ve only mapped maybe 25% of the underground. It’s too much still to do and I’m not enjoying myself anymore. I feel a nice pallet cleanser will be good and then jump back in.

I'm so sick of breaking weapons, the Hylian shield being optional and the Master Sword being a weak piece of junk. The sword barely lasts through one enemy encounter so I end up avoiding conflict most of the time. I hope the next game combines the freedom and exploration of the two latest games with the traditions of old.

Weapon durability is one schtick that definitely needs to go in the next game. I always enjoyed getting the next level of sword in prior games and wish that or something similar would return.

It's one thing to want the player to have to think their way through things and conserve resources as necessary, but at times this really does feel like the game obnoxiously holding the player back just to make the game seem longer than it otherwise is. That's why I'm using the dup glitch (I'm still on 1.1.1, and I don't update my game until I am absolutely ready to.... perhaps after eventual dlc comes out)... that at least takes the edge off. I can duplicate rare items to make as many as I need, and therefore have strong parts that I can attach to things (even if just a stick) to make relatively strong weapons. And I have essentially unlimited bomb flowers. That's one thing I miss from Breath of the Wild that this game lacks... at least with the sheikah slate in the previous game, we had infinite bombs. Even if it was a little tedious at times, I could at least find clever ways to use those when trying to conserve other weapons. In this game, there's no such unlimited option.
