The last couple years they’ve had an event that was “e3” adjacent. Same week but down the block. Then since Covid everyone adopted the approach Nintendo had been doing for a couple years and moved to streaming events. Nintendo only had the Treehouse at e3 a couple years before Covid iirc.

After that disappointing Sony Conference, Xbox has a chance to gather some major momentum behind their platform. Knowing them though they're gonna drop the ball somehow.

I would love to see a new Banjo Kazooie game but that’s probably out of the question.

I don't expect to see Perfect Dark but we will see a bunch of cgi trailers. I just hope it's not mostly Starfield and Forza (as much as I want to see them we don't need to see a ton more).

Kind of hoping since Sony showed the MGS stuff, maybe Xbox will get to show the (still just a rumor) Castlevania stuff, and hopefully it is not a remake of Rondo of Blood or Symphony of the Night. I hope there is something unexpected like Atlus/Vanillaware remastering their catalog, JSRF remaster or sequel, a new Ninja Gaiden, or the rumor that just won't die, Scalebound! I'm sure that is just as likely as Bayonetta trilogy showing up.

The Developer Direct was a great format, more live demonstrations than CGI; really want to see Forza demonstrated live on a Series X, which may have just been confirmed.

There's practically nothing releasing for Xbox till 2024. The showcase will be just as disappointing if you're there for first party content. They have Forza and Starfield, and starfield is getting its own direct after the Microsoft conference. All we're getting is CGI trailers. Maybe a gameplay trailer for whatever MS will have out in spring 2024, but don't get your hopes up for any massive reveals and gameplay footage.

The official Xbox Twitter is teasing something potentially Fable-related for the Showcase:

https://twitter.com/Xbox/status/1663651704133373953

Or it could just be the marketing team having fun! No guarantee it really alludes to Fable or anything else.

The latest in the Fable series was officially announced in a CGI teaser nearly three years ago, check it out here:

Hopefully a non gameplay trailer and no release date.

And no Redfall please. Announce the 60 fps patch in a tweet, not at this.

Also, where the hell has Perfect Dark been? The first year after hearing it plenty high profile folks left The Initiative. Then Embracer bought Crystal Dynamics who had been co developing for over 8 months at that point.

I saw a tweet from Rubenstein or Greenberg earlier that all but confirmed Fable but I can’t find it now. Glitter everywhere. They were in a food court and the name of the place behind them was Fable. If they’re showing it then it better be releasing this year.

I thought that was a joke, like someone changed a food court sign from “Table” to “Fable” in order to troll some fans.

No all CGI trailers from Xbox at the Showcase according to Aaron Greenberg (VP, Xbox Games Marketing). Probably does not apply to third-party content.
Quote:
None of our first party games in the show are full CG trailers. Everything is either in-game footage, in-engine footage, or in-game footage with some cinematics. Each of our trailers will be labeled so it is hopefully clear for our fans.

Also no movie or tv trailers (so we won’t have to sit through more of Paramount’s awful Halo series).

A trailer for a game 3+ years off is the same in my mind whether it's CGI or in game. That's just playing word salad.

That’s a fair point. Hopefully if something is actually running in engine it is not 3+ years away, but there’s Skull & Bones from Ubisoft that’s been demonstrated a few times since the 2013 announcement and still not released. Probably several other examples, but that’s the one that sticks out to me.

It was also mentioned the Showcase would be broadcast on the official Xbox and Bethesda YouTube channels at 4K/60, that was the marketing “word salad” for me. It’s incredibly unlikely that every game shown will release at 4K/60. Also, I have my Xbox set to 4K/120, that’s how Xbox presents games to my display but that doesn’t magically make Redfall (or any other game) a 4K/120 experience.
