I'm in the middle group of that. I do like to think of myself as a collector since I'm always game to buying something like this, but my wallet often looks like a desert just like where I live. Streaming isn't an option for me.

i feel I am in the middle ground as well. I'm ok with standard editions and if their is a choice between the 2 I usually get the SE unless the price difference is not substantial. I have not imported any anime from JP or UK yet but I feel I may go this route soon for anime not released in the US. Only drawbacks for me are many do not come with subs or are region B locked.
Now that I am close to being caught up with the anime I have been interested in cant wait for the 2017 releases to hit. Cheers, CC- |

I'm also somewhere in the middle. I prefer physical media for the A/V quality, independence and ease of use, but I have little inclination of paying more for nicer packaging and physical extras. It's all about A/V content for me, not about "collecting" or having pretty boxes to look at. I also prefer standard editions because they take up less shelf space. For these reasons I don't appreciate any trend towards CE-only releases, as they would just cost me more and take up more shelf space for (as far as I'm concerned) little benefit.

What a shame, just found screenshots of the upcoming Captain Future 1979 Blu-rays by Toei, an awful upscale with a strange green tint (+ DNR added).
Cherry Miel from 1974 looks great. ![]() And so does Galaxy Express 999 from 1978. ![]() That's how CF should look like: ![]() ![]() Actual screenshots: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What a shame. 35mm HD restorations of old animes can look very gorgeous but this one is awful. |

Cutie Honey is the English and Japanese name for that one, I guess your usage of the French (?) name indicates that was pulled from an EU BD release? If there is an EU release for it I might pick it up. I love Cutie Honey, Discotek's DVD looks good but I doubt they'll invest further in the franchise with any of the later entries or any BDs, otherwise they would have by now. Heck I didn't know there was any HD release of the original 1973 series (I still don't see anything on a release at the moment, but I can't really start digging for it at work).

For me, if I only had one choice, then sub is the way to go. However, we can thank the Higher Power of Your Choice that we have more than once option. I'll watch in sub the first time I watch the show, and maybe one more in the future; but dub will be the way that I'll watch it from then on. And the biggest reason for me is to watch it as the animator intended. We can have some fun and a few laughs at people's choices. However, I don't believe that someone should be mocked because of their choice, whether be it sub or dub. There is enough anime for everyone. Peace and love.... |

Well, if Aniplex USA potentially doesn't release it due to not high enough streaming numbers*, there's also something to fall back on.
*The following titles from them are SOL in NA: Classroom Crisis, Day Break Illusion, Gunslinger Stratos, Mekakucity Actors, Mushishi: Next Passage, Nanana's Buried Treasure, Samurai Flamenco, and Togainu no Chi. |
