This is great news imo. Hopefully it means Paramount and Lionsgate will join MA.

It isn't. As far as I remember "The Dark Knight Reborn" was a Best Buy exclusive extra for "Rises".

If I went and disconnected every service right now, all of my libraries would remain the same. Shouldn't the same be the case on August 1st?

Hopefully if TV is coming to Movies Anywhere it comes as a separate "TV Anywhere" service.

I have so many crap free episodes in my Google Play account that I don't want anywhere near my movie collection.

I'm not one of the people feeling like the sky is falling, but as others have pointed out, that's not exactly true.

I have 15 (more if you count additional cuts of the films) Sony UHD titles that are not available on VUDU in UHD (at this time). Granted, if VUDU doesn't have these titles in UHD by then, I'll contact them about it, but I'm going to hold off for now.

I do however own at least one title in HD in UV that VUDU only has in SD, so I don't hold out a lot of hope for VUDU to add it in the next 6 months. Granted, losing one title's HD resolution isn't disastrous, but it is disappointing. Others will probably be affected a lot more than me though.

VUDU is warning people against disconnecting from UV. I'd recommend not disconnecting.

In the MA app, the options are:

Explore Redeem My Movies Search More

They could simply add a My TV section next to My Movies. Well, maybe not simply coding wise, but simply design wise.

Of course, different retailers have different ideas on some content. For instance, the "Ice Age" Christmas special is considered a movie on iTunes, but a TV episode on Amazon (and ports as such). The Vixen DCAU "movie" is considered a movie by MA, VUDU, Amazon, etc., but a TV series on iTunes, so does not port to iTunes at all.

Maybe they will hand out some free movies or resolution upgrades on their way out.

Default Digital Movie Service UltraViolet Shutting Down July 31 2019

In the years to come some other streaming providers well most likely also shut down.

quote

"The Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE) will officially shut down the UltraViolet cloud-based digital rights locker service July 31, according to a notice posted to the UltraViolet website Jan. 31."

"After the shutdown date, the notice said, “your UltraViolet library will automatically close and, in the majority of cases, your movies and TV shows will remain accessible at previously linked retailers.”

"After more than seven years of service, UltraViolet has more than 30 million users, whose cloud libraries include more than 300 million movies and TV shows. Movies Anywhere after its first year reported having 6 million users with 150 million movies collected."

Right, but you are not losing anything that is currently in your Vudu account. Whatever you have in your Vudu account as of the day UV closes should stay. No rights will be taken away. To your point, I can’t see that any new rights will be granted or upgraded after. So there is a potential loss there, but they were never in Vudu to begin with.

Maybe this will allow Vudu to offer free UHD upgrades.

You are being hypothetical about disconnecting and all your libraries being still the same but if you did (dont though) you might find changes because of how seamlessly UV works behind the scenes.

I think the UV shutdown might mostly impact people with multiple same vendor accounts (usually to circumvent promo code, disc to digital, or other vendor safeguards), who purchased titles from now extinct vendors like CinemaNow, or who more aggressively bargain shop across vendors. There is a good chance the casual or newer digital format user may experience no changes.

I suppose to me I may have lost a couple freebie TV episodes from Flixster which never went UV on VUDU, but that was a while ago already and at least all films have seemed secure through the previous UV closures of retailers and studios.

I do have a bunch of titles which wrongly ported as SD into VUDU from Flixster and CinemaNow (mainly WB titles- 2001, Deathly Hallows Pt 2, Legend of Tarzan are ones off top of my head, Batman Begins was another but I bought the UHD so now have 4K digital) but I've contacted VUDU about them with no luck and those services are closed so I had already given up on them. And I think there is just one Sony title, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, stuck with UHD UV only from the Sony store, I redeemed more recent titles directly on MA as I saw this coming since MA was heavily rumored.

So, sure a few resolution issues, but as long we have assurances that the hundreds of movies I have imported from defunct UV won't disappear (which, as I said, I never expected to happen when UV went out), it's not too bad for me.

My point was that the rights I have in UV may be taken away come July. So yeah, I will (potentially) lose something.

I got the email today aswell saying that Ultraviolet is shutting down on 31/7/2019. The email says to link to retailer services, but there’s only three, Flixster, Sony and Kaleidoscope!

It won’t be long before it’s all defunct. Makes me wonder why they still include codes with blurays etc. Hopefully this means we are moving towards movies anywhere in the U.K.or whatever it’s called. Digital is a waste of bloody time at the moment because providers are slowly shutting down. We’ll have to download our movies onto our tablets if we want to keep them!

That's how I see it. If you're someone who is playing around with multiple accounts and other methods to cheat the system, then you'll probably get fried.

The average person who has one account and redeems codes from discs they buy and doesn't try and play with the system likely won't run into any issues.

Look at my signature. I have a spreadsheet where I detail where every digital movie I have came from. I have seven from Target Ticket, two from CinemaNow, and two from Flixster. The Target & Cinemanow ones have remained on Vudu after they went away. I suspect nothing will change there.

Now if they do go away because of this, none of them are world beaters for movies, so I won't lose any sleep if I lose those ones.
