Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker also just went up. Never saw it before last night. Not a bad little movie.

Love Edge of the Axe, by the way

This was recently added to Amazon Prime, for those who want to sample before buying...and I'm glad I did, because this is pretty weak.

"pretty weak" is putting it mildly.

I like this one a lot. But it's not a film I would recommend blind buying. Glad there are options for people to check it out before hand.

Always been a big fan of this one, one of the better late 80's slashers IMPO.

Just finished watching my Blu-ray and I LOVED it! I thought it had great atmosphere. I only wish I could have gotten the slipcover and booklet version.
My husband and I were watching and then when they are looking on Gerald's computer, there was a date....August 16, 1978. And it is August 16 and my husband was born August 1978!
Just wanted to say also, how rude they even let
[Show spoiler]the poor dog get killed.

Old post but I just got a chance to see this for the first time and thought the same thing immediately after it was over. After re-watching the scene again, and doing some reading, apparently they used several different actors to play the masked killer throughout, to throw the viewer off so you couldn't focus on things like hair, profile, eyes, hands, etc. and narrow down the killer.

In that scene, you could clearly see the killer's face for a couple seconds, but I believe that was unintentional, due to the scene being overly-lit. You were intended to see only the front profile, in shadow, but instead you could see the actor's face. Clearly that doesn't make sense by the end of the film. Other films have done this same tactic. But yeah, the lighting has to be just right or it doesn't work and worse can totally clash with what happens later like in this case. If the transfer wasn't so good I'd say maybe the blu-ray is just overly bright, but that's not the case at all, so I call it a simple production flub.

I'm surprised the main girl hasn't acted again since. Apparently she was in The All-Nighter the year before, according to imdb, but otherwise she's had no other credits, and there's no information on her online. Too bad because she did a fair job in this film.

The computer stuff was a blast to watch, and rather interesting. I had to shake my head every time the computer "talked" each line that was typed - it sounded nothing like an early 80's computer voice (think WarGames) and we could easily read all the text on the screen throughout the film, so the "narration" was totally unnecessary. I'm also not sure what 80's keyboard had brown keys and an "answer" button.

Pretty violent and bloody, despite featuring only a few actual gore effects. Nice scenic photography too. Not much tension but they tried in a few scenes. I admit to not figuring out who the killer was. Cool film overall with some neat ideas. Not super slick but (mostly) decent acting that feels natural.

[Show spoiler]There's a shot early in Schizoid where you can see the killer's face.

[Show spoiler]Same thing happens in Sleepaway Camp. And again, it's not the correct face of the killer.

I watched this on prime last night. I've seen conflicting opinions on this and I can see why. It's not bad, but it's also not good. Overall I enjoyed it, but there's definitely some aspects that drag it down. The pacing is sort of odd. Scenes tend to drag on at times which isn't always bad, but in this case there's often little exposition or character development to warrant such lengthy scenes. I also think they could've cut down the runtime by ~5 minutes just by editing out some unnecessary tidbits like letting the camera linger on a door after being opened. Just cutting out some bloat here and there. A minor nitpick really.

As for the positives, I like the cheesy kills. It's got that funny low budget feel where the killer swings the axe with very little force, but the victim ends up with a gaping wound. There's also a twist at the end which I surprisingly didn't see coming. Also, the Blu cover is awesome.

It's not amazing by any means, but I'll pick it up if there's a deep sale.
