Since the theater threads keep disappearing.
Studios Begin to Blink on Theatrical Releases Amid Delta: “I Would Have Moved Everything” https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/bu...4c9ce9541f3e30 Says one studio executive: “If I knew six weeks ago what I know now, I would have moved everything as far out as early next year.” A rival colleague adds that he would have said “no” to the chance of another major calendar migration six short weeks ago. “Now, it’s a maybe.” At what point do the theaters get wise, and start reaching out to Indie film creators? It is a wide open market that they are ignoring. They could invest in the future. Last edited by mwynn; 08-05-2022 at 02:58 PM. |

I wonder if some sort of temporary partnership between theaters and streaming services would work? Maybe when you purchase a theater ticket online, it could include temporary access to the movie on a streaming service, or if you purchase the movie digitally, it could include a movie ticket. I've seen blu-rays that included theater tickets. I think they could work something out.

The only way to change this is for a movie theater chain to bankroll a movie - in the $20M to $50M range. Then they could keep 100% of the ticket sales. There is no legal reason why they can't do this. The only thing they can't do is make the movie exclusive to their theater chain. That is covered in the Sunset Clause when the Paramount Consent Decrees were vacated.

Keep the budgets low and the movies short: 100 minutes or less. The top three chains have 1500 sites. If they got together to show each other's movies on a single screen at each site, that would be a wide release. Maybe get Speilberg and Nolan to help them - put their money where their mouth is as far as helping theaters. |

IMO you are taking the factory 15" wheel covers off and adding 18" chrome wheels. It's too much of a change. Plus remember, the studios are losing money on their streaming services currently which won't change for another 2 to 3 years.
