Movie theaters have been on life support for years. They have been told numerous times to change their ways, but they refuse. There are so many small and simple changes they can make, but they won't do it.

I don't think the plug will be pulled - not in my lifetime, anyway. But if and when that day comes, we should all consider it to be a mercy killing.

Thanks. The theater never fully recovered from the time it closed last year. It's been open since 1997 (TITANIC was the first big movie there), and it always seemed busy to me, especially on weekends. Hopefully a new chain will purchase it. It was the only theater in town.

It had stadium seating, but I don't think the theater itself has been updated since it opened. It definitely could have used some improvements. Still, it was a nice, comfortable 12-screen theater.

How were the screen sizes?

If it’s the only theatre on your town another chain is bound to buy it and remodel. A smaller chain remodeled a closed amc classic in a town an hour away from me and it’s not the best but an improvement.

At least the last film I saw there was a masterpiece (West Side Story).
Our Regal closed over a year ago due to Covid and gangs. It's a double shame because it was the closest Liemax to me. West Side Story would have been a hoot there.

The screens were good-sized, some of the best I've seen. The theaters were always clean, and there were always plenty of concessions. It's such a shame the place is closing, but hopefully a new chain will come along and bring it more up-to-date.

I've seen that happen in my area, sometimes the new company will go out of their way to make everything way better than it was before.

Here's hoping!

My local theater closed about a year and a half ago. I am sure the rats are still there.

Went to the theater a dozen times in 2021, which is way below pre-pandemic years. I only went once in 2020 which was such an off year as almost no films were released to theaters after March of that year. My trips to the theater in 2021 would have been more often except that I took full advantage of the same day and shortened window streaming opportunities for a number of films (i.e. Black Widow, Suicide Squad, Jungle Cruise, The Many Saints of Newark, Free Guy, Last Night in Soho, Cry Macho, The Matrix Resurrections, etc.). Add to that, the fact that companies like Netflix and Amazon are producing films (i.e. The Power of the Dog, Don't Look Up) that hit their streaming services pretty quick also cuts down on theater visits. The impact of companies like Netflix and Amazon started influencing theater visits before the pandemic and that won't change in 2022. However, now that Warner is no longer doing same day streaming releases for their films in 2022, theater visits should most likely go up in number.

Films seen in theater in 2021:
Stillwater
The Green Knight
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
The Last Duel
No Time to Die
Belfast
Eternals
Ghostbusters: Afterlife
House of Gucci
West Side Story
Spider-man: No Way Home
The King's Man

You probably have a point. We've all hammered on the obvious non-pandemic issues that dont seem to get addressed. Might be a mercy killing, yes. A sad one though. Its the old "ya wont miss them until they're gone" thing.

Everyone always thinks major events will never happen in their generation…but we nearly lost AMC and would have if it wasn’t for that Reddit group. I think we will definitely see some major changes to theaters in our lifetime.
